Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
Is anyone keeping a log of their adventures? I would be interested in reading something like that.
Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
I think both Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 can be easily completed in 25 hours if you don't concentrate too much on the sidequests. Though you need good understanding of the rules in the early game. If you don't understand how adnd works, probably not your first character will be the most successfull one.

I've PLAYED the GBA games. I still do as a matter of fact. (right now it's trying to unlock everything on Warioware Inc.)noiseredux wrote:he'll grow out of it. Exed is the 2010 Noise. He even has a big pile of GBA games.
(Plus Exed decided not to play SOTM for some reason).
There are games on SOTM I couldn't do this year due to not having the consoles. You all picked games that had only one North American release on one particular system this year
You can still play this!
Not quite, but I am updating on the areas and situations I've encountered so far.Ivo wrote:Is anyone keeping a log of their adventures? I would be interested in reading something like that.

the joke I was making was that back in 2010 I was a big GB collector too.ExedExes wrote: I've PLAYED the GBA games. I still do as a matter of fact. (right now it's trying to unlock everything on Warioware Inc.)
Out of curiosity, why is importing out of the question? You have a Dreamcast don't you? Playing imports on DC is a breeze. There are games on SOTM I couldn't do this year due to not having the consoles. You all picked games that had only one North American release on one particular system this year No PS2, no COS or Homura. No 360, no Raiden IV. Importing and emulating are out of the question.
Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
I don't have the $70 I'm seeing for a DC-J copy of COS on eBay. I wouldn't have time to do it either with BG. This game is sucking up my time like crazy.noiseredux wrote:Out of curiosity, why is importing out of the question? You have a Dreamcast don't you? Playing imports on DC is a breeze.

Yeah, what happened to that? Did you just drop it after you "we all won" and you got a Dreamcast?noiseredux wrote:the joke I was making was that back in 2010 I was a big GB collector too.![]()
Are you opposed to burns?ExedExes wrote:Importing and emulating are out of the question. Therefore, my efforts will be focused on the regular TR game(s) those months. Therefore, Baldur's Gate this month.

I had TG16 growing up. I had many consoles growing up actually, haha.AppleQueso wrote:I remember him being big into grabbing Sony stuff for a while....o.pwuaioc wrote:Yeah, what happened to that? Basically, my GB collecting was a big nostalgic trip for me. It was replaying so much that I played when I was younger. But the more I got into games and reading about history etc, I realized that I was fascinated by a lot of stuff I had missed out on. I think just broadening my own tastes in games -- discovering new games here, via TR, websites such as HG101, etc -- has just led me to investigate other consoles and genres kind of naturally.
The Sega thing has made a lot of sense to me though. I had a SCD at launch. Had SMS, Gen, GG too. I was really into Sega back then and loved the SCD. But I missed out on Saturn and Dreamcast era because I slowly but mostly got out of gaming during those eras. Coming back around now, there's just so much that Sega did that still impresses me but it took time to realize (IE: playing Phantasy Star years later I found that I was much more into that series than Final Fantasy). And really I do love collecting disc-based media for some unknown reason (Flake says it's cuz the time we grew up in, "CD's were the future!!").
So yeah, after all that ramble I guess basically SCD still has a certain nostalgia to me and then Saturn is this really interesting growing-pain-ish era that I missed out on and enjoying exploring, and Dreamcast is just totally solid arcade games. It's a lot of win for me.
Re: Together Retro: Baldur's Gate
Unfortunately, yes. I had made the Dream Explorer ISO, and I believe that, combined with the heavy play I did on my European Shenmue II killed my first DC. I understand the data on those ISOs are not optimally placed for DC disc reading, and that the commercially prepared discs read better. I've got another rev 1 DC so I could still do that, but I only got it about a year ago and I really don't want to kill it again.o.pwuaioc wrote:Are you opposed to burns?
If I was real serious about getting COS, I would have paid the crazy price for a DC-J copy. I did put down $42 for Mars Matrix, after all, and that was a *steal*. But hearing a recent RB podcast on how LONG this game was gonna be, I figured there was no way I could seriously dedicate my time to both games this month, so I chose the $10 easily available GOG download.
Back to the task at hand! Going to play Baldur's Gate, and hopefully maybe get to the Nashkel Mines!

Also, I forget, but did you get rid of all your gameboy stuff or did you hold onto a lot of your personal favorites, etc?
