I'm so conflicted about Spore.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The game is really short. I havent beat it, but I got to the space stage and got bored. When I got to the civilization stage, I used a cheat to get all the super weapons just to see what they could do. I fired off an ICBM and killed every other city on the planet and won. I figured I really shortened that stage by doing that, except for the fact that I could have conquered the cities in about twice the time it took to fire off a super weapon, so its really not that long.

Kind of a disappointing game. Glad I just played the leaked version.

Sims with monsters... sims with really poor monsters who can only grow their stuff instead of buy it.

Oh and you can convert them to your religion! Oh wow!

I already said this to mozgus.
When I first heard of the game:
"oh, that sounds cool."

a little later:
"damn it that sucks."

some time more:
"damn it more suck."

some more time passed:
"damn it, it sounds like sims."

the creature creator was released:
"crap, that game is awful."

I never mentioned that I went into this game with practically zero knowledge of it. I never read previews or watched videos. I tinkered with the creature creator for 5 min back when it leaked. That's it. So that means the hype had no effect on me. I went in expecting an average experience, and that's what I got.

If only it had some kind of online mechanic. If only it were like FreeLancer is online, except on one huge server. The game has like 300,000 planets I read. Can you imagine one huge server where each player starts with that planet once they reach the space era, and they have to defend it, and try to take over other player's planets? If your planet gets taken over, you can still exist on it as one of the many species each planet has, but you'd be knocked back to civilized era and try to climb your way back up to the top technology and get back out in space. The potential would have been limitless. It would have been like EVE Online but better in every fucking way. EVE online is seemingly designed and played by people who've never experienced a fun video game in their lives. I've always wanted someone else to come up and show them how it should be done. Spore could have been just that...

I was looking forward to Spore but it sounds extremely limited in comparison to the expectations I had. I was essentially expecting Black and White with customization options and direct control over many creatures rather than one and indirect tribe control. The intuitive online sharing of content also interested me but it sounds like it doesn't live up to the potential.

Might as well have released an online version of B&W.

this game conflicted me as well but since the start it went from. Looks cool to, a slightly smarter SimCity Societys but a dumbed down Sims game. I wish they would stop w/ the maintstream crap, the Sim style is the only thing EA really has going for it.

People seem to be really worked up [as in annoyed at] the DMA this game has.

With good cause, I'll add.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

I now know why the hyped up people are so angry. Spore looked 10x better 3 years ago:

I don't mean graphics wise, I mean it looks like it was more fun, complex, had a more serious/less cute style, and just seemed like it would have appealed to the hardcore types.

Don't buy this game guys. Pirate it if you want it but the original copy only let's you install the game 3 times. The pirated copy you can install for all eternity. EA fucked up pretty well this time. I wanted to buy this and Red Alert 3 but with both of them having limited times I can install the game I think I'll pass and torrent the game.
