question about Genesis controllers

Post by brainerdrainer »

I just got a lot of items in the mail today that I purchased from ebay. A few Genesis games and controllers. Well one of the Sega Genesis controllers seems to have a super short cord/wire. I compared it to my other genesis controllers and the wire is a lot shorter. Any one else know of genesis having controllers some with longer wires and some with wires way to short? The controller I got today the cord is only like 4 feet long. Thats very very short

It's just the brand.

Yes, some were shorter than others, even with the first party ones.

yeah I just thought it was weird that a controller would have a cord only 4 feet long. Here's a photo. The controller on the left with the all white is the new controller I got with the short cord. The controller with the red ABC buttons is the controller I already had.

Worse yet, Famicom controller. All but unusable in the west.

Yeah, I have a Mega Fire controller and an official Japanese Mega Drive controller that both have short cords. I've found no rhyme or reason to it. Especially after seeing this thread, as I have a red-button controller with a longer cord.

so I was reading about some differences in the genesis controllers from earlier and later versions. What exactly is the big difference between the controller with the Red text and the one with the White text. I guess the ones with red text came out originally with the fist consoles for sale.

That's right. The earlier controllers have red ABC on the buttons, the later controllers have white ABC above the buttons.

Several of my Genesis controllers have suffered from short cords. I only see this problem on three button controllers, not on six button controllers (at least not yet). There are extension cords available cheap online if you shop around.
