I understand that. I have the same issue. NES Tetris isnt the best, but it was my first Tetris, so the music and the art are ingrained in my mind as Tetris.noiseredux wrote:She doesnt like the gb version. She wants NES Tetris specifically. the version she has nostalgia for.
Like the others said, you are best off with an original. BUT if you have to go replica, go with the Retro Duo like Satoshi said. It is the best replica on the market. Id avoid a toploader, since they need alot of work to be pretty - jailbars are distracting.

For the love of all things holy, get a real NES.
Yes, the toasters are a hassle - but replacement pin connectors are cheap and easy to find. In addition, it's not difficult at all to fix worn pin connectors (ie: bending the pins back into place). The NES is very easy to dismantle.
The top-loada is technically better, but rare and expensive.
Avoid clones at all costs. I have one of the "best" NES clones out there (a Yobo system) and it's still a piece of gerbil poo compared to the real thing.

Quality a/v mods aren't that hard to do, and a good amp circuit will remove the jailbars anyway.fastbilly1 wrote:Id avoid a toploader, since they need alot of work to be pretty - jailbars are distracting.

Yeah maybe my eyes are bad, but I've never seen a problem with the jailbars. Game-Tech.us did a composite mod on one of my toploaders for me and it's gorgeous. I know a lot of people claim you *NEED* an AV Famicom to avoid the bars, but on my 42" lcd I see none whatsoever.AppleQueso wrote:Quality a/v mods aren't that hard to do, and a good amp circuit will remove the jailbars anyway.fastbilly1 wrote:Id avoid a toploader, since they need alot of work to be pretty - jailbars are distracting.
So either I'm lucky, or the people claiming you must have a famicom are crazy. Or both.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!
Cheat sheet of my collection, always looking to increase it. 405/677 licensed games, 46/"95" unlicensed

If I remember correctly the issue with jailbars on RCA can be fixed with another resistor. Its all alittle more technical than I am willing to do on my own - since my soldering is not very good. Also my toploader is only soso - someone tried to clean it with oven cleaner and after I cleaned it heavily it is still spotty on some games (which is why I got it for $5). Once I get a better conditioned toploader Ill do an RCA mod.KalessinDB wrote:Yeah maybe my eyes are bad, but I've never seen a problem with the jailbars. This is the one I did. It looks great, quality is at least as good as the stock toaster's, if not a tad more vibrant.
