Probably. I had the same kind of experience when I first got my HDTV. I think the PS2 was the worst for it though. XBox titles (particularly) stand up better.Opa Opa wrote: Another note: This game looks like garbage on my tv. What are you playing?

Had the MGS HD collection for over a year and only recently started seriously playing Peace Walker.
I like it.

Keep in mind that Ico also looks different because of the way it's drawn.isiolia wrote:Probably. I had the same kind of experience when I first got my HDTV. I remember seeing this game for the first time years ago and thinking it was still a beta.
And that was on CRT...

Ah, I had no idea. Guess that explains it partially...AppleQueso wrote:Ico runs at 240p, which is pretty low res for a ps2 game.
Still like Ico's style though. It's just getting used to a bit...
EDIT Interesting read: My game wont play with component cables...weird

Yup, it's the old 240p over component problem. It comes up with ps1 games over ps2's component and trying to use RGB Scart to component adapters on HDTVs too.elmagicochrisg wrote: EDIT Interesting read: My game wont play with component cables...weird

I'm going to assume this is just a problem for ALL early ps2 titles. My copy of Ico was printed on one of the blue compact discs.AppleQueso wrote:Ico runs at 240p, which is pretty low res for a ps2 game.
High definition probably wasn't on dev's minds back in '01.

Definitely not all of them, Ico an exception. Most games were running 480i at least.Opa Opa wrote:I'm going to assume this is just a problem for ALL early ps2 titles. Blue bottom discs just mean the game was on a CD instead of a DVD.
Re: What are you playing?
I would honestly have to say that if you never played the PS2 version of Ico back in the day, you should probably just play the HD remake. The content that the JP and EU versions had that weren't added to the US release are in the HD version, and any differences in game play are so minor as to be trivial.
If the PS2's limitations are getting in the way of your enjoyment of Ico, the HD re-release should blow your mind, and give a bit better sense of what people playing it back in the early 2000s felt about it

Re: What are you playing?
I think I've spent 70hrs in the month of december making my (2) new multiplayer maps in Far Cry 3 (xbox360) and now doing the Baldurs Gate thing for together retro. In between all that madness I also had some time (dabbled) with a bunch of PS1 games such Beyond the Beyond, Juggernaut & Medal of Honor.
If anyone has Far Cry 3 on xbox you should download (free) my custom levels "Clear Cut", & "Idol Assault" (which is a remake from MOH: Rising Sun)
