Monster Hunter Tri and Xenoblade Chronicles are easily enough to justify owning a Wii. Both were huge, impressive games that swallowed hundreds of hours of my life. Either could easily be called my favorite game of the generation.
I also think the Wii has a lot of lesser-known gems in it's library - often niche titles that were very solid but appealed to a small audience or didn't get much media attention. Stuff like Dokapon Kingdom, Dawn of Discovery, Endless Ocean, House of the Dead, Little King's Story, Mad World, Rabbids Go Home, Red Steel 2, Sakura Wars, Shiren the Wanderer, and Trauma Team were all games I enjoyed greatly.
WiiWare is also overlooked far too often. The service had some serious problems, but also a few great games such as the Art Style series, Bit.Trip series (which were later collected onto a retail disc that is definitely worth buying), Cave Story, Fluidity, La-Mulana, Lost Winds series, Swords & Soldiers, Tales of Monkey Island, and World of Goo.
With the Wii now 99% done, what were your favorite games?

Excite Truck is probably my favourite game.
I see Ivy the Kiwi mentioned. I bought the game based on hype and it ended up being nothing more than an iPhone game. I played for an hour or so and it never became fun.

Selling half my NES/SNES/PS1 collection (ending Dec 1):

Agreed. I love threads like this. There are so many great recommendations (Dawn of Discovery? I had never even heard of that game!), and I always end up adding a bunch of titles to my want list.chupon wrote:Just wanted to say thanks to all for the great lists. I now know what to get!

Yeah, I didn't find Ivy the Kiwi very enjoyable either. But I'm sure lots of people look at games I play and say the same thing.Zing wrote:...

Heck, I enjoyed Baroque a great deal and played it to completion... so I know that many gamers will say the same thing about games I liked.

Lately I've been playing through Punch-Out!! I absolutely love this game despite how frustrating it can get at some points. Everyone should try this game at least once.

A lot of people mentioned Geometry Wars. Which is better, the DS or the Wii version, or are they different enough to warrant getting both? Galaxies is only $5 at my local game store.

A couple obvious ones:
Mario Galaxy
Epic Mickey
Lego StarWars
Monster Hunter Tri
New Super Mario Bros
Punchout
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
Skylanders
A couple lesser known ones:
Kororinpa 1&2 - fun puzzle labyrinths
Dragon Quest Swords - its like Cross Swords on the Neogeo but in a Dragon Quest world
SEGA shooters - HOTD 2&3, HOTD Overkill, Ghost Squad - Some of SEGAs best modern work. Just AWESOME
Lets Tap - the most innovative gameplay idea for the Wii period.
Broken Sword Directors Cut - though I gave up on it halfway through, bought it on Gog, and beat it in almost one sitting...
Odd reason for loving it:
Skyward Sword - the music alone would have made this a top pick for me, but the world is awesome. While playing it I kept having a desire to read through the Dinotopia books again (the wooden shield is very similar to something out of one of the books). And Dinotopia is one of my favorite book series. So even though that is way off topic, its up there.
I probably have more I could post, but I honestly cannot remember all of my Wii games, like mjmjr25 I have quite a few.

I think that neither is very good. Most of the time you are shooting at defenseless enemies from afar and only the ocassional wave of enemies is a problem.o.pwuaioc wrote:A lot of people mentioned Geometry Wars. I beat the DS version and everytime I ask myself why wasn't I playing Robotron instead.
Both are the same game so take the one you can use more.
