Bought the sega saturn mod chip. Having issues

Post by treepop »

Okay. So I bought the mod chip for my sanyo model 2 Sega Saturn.

I soldered point A to Point B and I gave it power via the 5v (3rd one up).

The Saturn can still play regular games, but I am unable to play backups. I tinkered around with a few things (maybe the solder wasn't creating connection on the A+B or power).

Finally I gave up and removed the mod chip. Only to realize I was having trouble getting that ribbon cable seated quite rightly. So I thought I will put the mod chip in there since I know my regular games work with it in. It didn't even spin up w/ regular games. I had unhooked the 5v power thinking it wouldn't need it since it was only a pass through, but I found out that it still needed power via the 5V.

So I know for a fact the 5v is getting power to the mod chip. However I cannot play burned games. What gives?

Please advise!

A+B won't work on a sanyo board, at least it never has for me. I had a sanyo and I had to solder the signal wire to the CD Rom board.

It may be worth checking 14/19 jumper too in step 2.
