Since everyone else is doing it:

- I've created a new rule for myself to not purchase any new title until I've beaten at least 3 unfinished games in my backlog. That's pretty much the only effective way I could think of to be motivated to beat my games. I have a bad habit of playing half a game, putting it down, and playing a different game.

- Try to get into the Shin Megami Tensei series... I'll probably start on the PS2 titles; not sure which one though. Knowing me, I'll probably start off with the least expensive games.

I may give Persona 3 a second chance as well. I didn't really like the PSP version... Maybe the PS2 version would grab my attention a little more?

- Get a copy of Mushihimesama for PS2.

I'll probably end up just throwing down the cash for the Hori one. I don't really mind.

before you do so let me just say this: I owned both the Hori and the Pelican at the same time so I had the chance to do a side-by-side and I actually preferred the Pelican. It's a little thicker than the Hori so you don't feel like a colossus holding the tiny thing, and the d-pad is actually more comfy (it's got the round Genesis-style d-pad rather than the teeny tiny +-style on the Hori).

"teeny tiny d-pad"?

Looks identically sized to the SNES's d-pad to me, and I wouldn't decribe that as 'teeny tiny'

I'll happily buy the Pelican if I happen to find it super cheap like it was selling for before. Otherwise I think I'll just stick with trying to get the more snes-ish pad.

Either one has to be more comfortable than using a Gamecube controller.

it is very close to the SNES pad yes. I guess I shouldn't have said "teeny tiny," but my hands feel too big for the controller in general, making the Pelican far more comfortable to me.

Absolutely. Yes. Once you have either of them you won't want to use the GCN controller for a 2D game ever again.

Hmm...guess I should sit down and set up some specific goals for my hobby in 2013.

COLLECTING

-Reach 225 games for my SNES collection.

PLAYING

-Reach 300 completed games in my collection.

I'm not really far from either of those goals, but with work I've had considerably less time to play, and in 2012 I returned to RPGs in a big way. We will have to see how things go for me in the upcoming year.

Goals for 2013:

Playing:
1. Shoot for a closer to 50/50 ratio for retro/current gen games beaten
2. Grab the top spot on the leaderboard for one month of SOTM
3. Play co-op through a game from start to finish with my preschooler
4. Beat a Virtua Boy game (without losing vision)

Collecting:
1. Finish a complete Atari 7800 collection.
2. Explore the world of Mega Drive imports a little, picking up some solid Japanese exclusives.
3. Do a long-overdue collection update on RFGen and then keep it current month to month.

- Same as above, but for oXbox.
- Catch up on all the Xbox 360 stuff I've missed out on over the past few years.

This stuff...

Along with building up my Gamecube collection, more Gameboy stuff, and maybe even grabbing a job at a game store or some such.

To try not and add to much to my current want list (besides new releases), I'm so close to my gaming nirvana adding anymore would just delay my climax.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.
