I think it is probably due to the pointing, clicking, combining, using, looking, etc. I can appreciate the stories/humor/ect. - but slogging through it is PAINFUL for me and sucks any fun out of it.

I get it... but I don't. I don't know. I've always enjoyed them (except Deja Vu). But eh, it is what it is. You can't like everything, nor do you have to.

Did you play on a PC or console?
Mostly PC. I think I tried the Sega CD Monkey Island game and the NES version of Deja Vu (each for about 5 minutes before deep and encompassing hatred set in)
I tend to dislike P&C's for similar reasons. However, since I generally very much enjoy the stories and worlds these games can create I just play through these games following a guide. That way I can enjoy the story and keep the fun sucking slogging to a minimum.

Yeah, definitely give up, then. I can see someone not liking them on a console but loving them on a PC, e.g. I myself, but if you don't like them on PC, you really must not like them. Such a shame, too. Some of them are really fun. 7th Guest was a my favorite P&C when I was a young kid. So much atmosphere for a kids game.
