It really didn't, When Robotech was liscensed to the US it needed to be a set amount of episodes. Macross was too short. Thats why they had to get those other shows as well.

In the US a full season back then needed to be (dont quote me on this) at least 40-50 ep.

Smaller midwest markets needed this especially. Because of time slots.

I like that in the other series, the next characters are children of the main characters. Even though the shows dont really match, harmony gold did their best to keep the shows at least connected.

If you like robotech, you should find out about this anime:

Designwise, its from the same person as macross.

Its got an okay story as well. I have some on VHS and I'm sure this old anime is on DVDs as well.

I've been giving Toriko a try lately.

I have pretty mixed feelings about this show so far. Something that I really like is how intricate and interesting a lot of the entities in this show are. Seeing different plants and animals interact with each other and their environments gives the show a really cool atmosphere; the fantastic world it creates is really detailed and enjoyable. My favorite parts are when they hunt rare monsters and talk about their unique characteristics and methods for turning them into cuisine. Of course, I also love the overarching food theme throughout the show in general. Food is such an enjoyable subject to begin with, let alone creating a cool universe around that theme.

The biggest downside to this show is its terrible overarching story. While it's definitely not a really serious series or anything, the main plot just feels totally forced even for what it is. While it doesn't really go against the logic of the series (food > all) I feel like the antagonists and the battle segments take away from the real strength of the show, which is the hunting of monsters and the following preparation of meals. I'm getting close to episode 20 and I've noticed that battles rely really heavily on twist endings, which either end up being obvious or forced. They're not terrible or anything, but like I said I feel like the series is just trying to imitate things we've seen from other series rather than focusing on its own strengths (which would be totally sufficient to rely on).

I'm not totally sure if the series is going to stick yet but I'm interested in watching more episodes.

I've been watching The Fighting Spirit (aka Hajime no Ippo) lately and loving the hell out of it. It's a boxing anime that perfectly captures what is great about shonen fighting/sports series.

Oh man, it's funny they didn't include this show in "Robotech". As you said it is literally from the same studio, same director, same animators, same writers, same composer, etc as Macross. I'd say it feels more like Macross SDF to me than any of the official sequels (I'm a big fan of Macross 7 regardless of it being far goofier).

Those VHS's are probably worth a fortune by the way, the DVD's have been OOP for ages now and go for an arm and limb.

Toriko will continue to tease you then. I'm caught up at episode 88, and the series still feels like it'll never reach its full potential with how random the arcs are and how episodic it can get sometimes with a lot of pointless stuff. At this point I wish the food would sometimes take a backseat or it'd be more coherent of a focus, but it's obvious Komatsu is just as much as a main character as Toriko is. But yeah, from where you are and I am in the story, they've still only hinted at like a dozen villains that haven't even done much yet, the environments and settings continue to be creative and really cool, but the arcs are consistently way too brief.

It's easy to watch once a week when a new episode drops, but yeah. At this point I predict this is just how Toriko will always be. I really wish it'd give us One Piece sized arcs and really get to business with the full course thing and the other villains.

I forget if you're watching it too now, but if you want something similar without the BS check out the new JoJo, holy crap it's incredible.

That's weird... for some reason I always thought Robotech was SDF Macross/Orguss/SDC Southern Cross. Just glimpsing at the Wikipedia page I'm confused as hell. Seems like the "Robotech" name came from the toyline that put out Macross, Orgus, and Dougram kits. But then it says Robotech is basically a cannibalized Macross and Mospeada... I never even knew Mospeada was in the mix. And apparently there's a crapload of TV series, OVAs, and films, one of the movies even being release in the 00s. I think I'm happy with the originals...

It's a shame that the series still hasn't figured much out. Nothing is worse to me than when I feel like a show has the capacity to be great but it just settles into mediocrity. I'll keep at it though, I'm still curious to see if the show can manage to peak my interest.

Oh yeah, I'm watching Jojo. There's no comparison between it and Toriko (or really it and most things on right now).

I'm liking the second Jojo arc a lot more, the show is getting closer to reaching its potential (although I'm aware that its formula changes a lot after the current arc). I do love that unlike other long term shows I'm watching right now (One Piece/Hunter x Hunter/Toriko/etc) Jojo does not at any point slow down or waste so much as one minute of your time. I really respect that in a series.

Also Xeo, you watch like every anime ever . I can't keep up at all.

I think I am in love with Cowboy Bebops movie.
The reason is spoilerific.
It is released after the show ended. I think it means Spike lived and the team got back together. I will stick to that thought from now on. No more being depressed with the ending.

Hate to burst your bubble, but it takes place somewhere between episode 9 and 23, most say between episode 22 and 23. Spike is dead as a doornail, unfortunately. He's fine with that though. HE IS SAMURAI

Spike is dead kid. Just Like Aeris died in FF7.
