So I've been pumping most of my free time into this game since it was leaked. I've gone back and forth like 6 times now, between wanting to uninstall it forever, or buy the damn thing. Keep in mind, I had zero intention of buying it until now.
It's been a rough ride. It is kind of the GTA of all the genres GTA didn't touch. When I say that, I mean it has 5 distinct genres all rolled into one, but it handles each one worse than many other games handle them individually. Spore has absolutely great presentation and scope, but you are constantly reminded how misleading all of it is. It's really not as large as it want you to think; nor as complex or innovative. But you will constantly second guess yourself on those claims with all the shiny coats of paint everything has.
God, I'm so confused.
I'm so conflicted about Spore.

The full game was leaked already?
Didn't even know.

The extremes in your opinion of this game are very interesting. I think perhaps the game in general will be polarizing to the gaming community. I must also 'try' the game out and see what I think, but it doesn't sound like a traditional game at all so I don't know what to expect (other than a genre mash-up).

Does the DRM bother you? It seems to bother everyone else.

I cant find any confirmed restrictions on the DRM it uses. It does worry me. If you can point me to information on Spore's DRM, that would help. All I find are year old claims and hearsay, and I don't think Spore literally limits you to 3 installs. That would be absolutely retarded.GSZX1337 wrote:Does the DRM bother you? Exactly, those are really old. Between then and recently, I remember EA saying that they were going to revise the planned DRM on Spore, but I cant find any hard info on that.GSZX1337 wrote:This was the best thing I found.Mozgus wrote:I cant find any confirmed restrictions on the DRM it uses. Ah, here: http://spore.wikia.com/wiki/Copy_protection
So yeah, definitely not buying. They didn't really tone down the DRM at all. Fuck them.

Ok I have to share a phenomenal post over at Evil Avatar. Sums up all my gripes, including the ones I didn't realize I had.

its just like the Wii. Everything I ever imagined could be possible. Except they need to sell it so they either :
A : Watered down the game
B : Couldn't accomplish all of the basic idea's the put forward on time for the publisher.
It really was all about procedural animation and the sandbox elements. Seems like this is just glorified character creation. Without true random elements created by user content the game just doesn't sound very cool. I want my creature to be able to fail! Let me do really stupid stuff!
