Lately I just don't want to play games anymore. I don't know why. I have been a gamer most of my life. I always loved video games. I bought a few games for my genesis earlier this week and when I came home today I put in sonic and street fighter and was just bored with it.
I have a gamecube, dreamcast, nes, wii, snes, psp, ps3, xbox (modded), genesis and snes and I just don't care anymore.
I have great games for all for every system and it's just collecting dust. Now does anyone else ever feel like I do? Is it because im 36 years old and I maybe growing out of it? I wont give them up or sell it because I learned from this site that If I sell I will regret it so does anyone else have this phase like I am feeling right now? If anyone has what did you do to get back into retro gaming. I tried to play the current stuff also but my kids are always on the ps3 and wii. Any feedback would be great. Thanks
Anyone have this feeling sometimes on video games?

The grass is always greener on the other side. No matter what games you have now, you will probably want different ones. Just take a break and don't look at new stuff you want. I also think that in some cases less is more. Maybe find another way to spend your time for awhile.
Everyone needs a break from time to time. It does seem that a lot of your posts are always on what to buy for what system. If you really can't get joy out of what you have maybe you should let some go. Yes you may regret it but you can get the same stuff latter, maybe you will pay a bit more and maybe not. You could be revealed to have gotten rid of some stuff.
My biggest problem was with games that took a lot of time and needed constant attention or I would forget where I was going and what I was doing. Then I made the move to mostly arcade titles.
It is important to a least of one or two other things to enjoy to take up your time.
From 2004 to 2009 I almost never played anything. I was in a heavy comic reading mode. Now I don't have as much of interest in comics and have thinned the collection a lot have felt relived.

You probably just need a break. It happens.
Leave the games be for a month or two. Don't sell them, but don't try to play them either if you're not feeling it. Just leave them alone. Its perfectly ok to do this. They won't go anywhere.
Explore another hobby for a bit (or whatever else you wanna do) and then try coming back to the games and see how you feel.
The time away from it will help you work out if you've really "grown out of it" or if you're just not in the mood right now.

My habits are always cyclical. I haven't been seriously craving horror movies for over a year, but I'm sure I'll get back into them. I've had long stretches in which I've played no video games. But eventually, I get my cravings again and end up with as much passion for my hobbies as I've ever had.

I cycle through my interests. Sometimes, about once a year or so, I just don't feel like gaming at all. That's usually the same time of year I spent the most time with friends going around wasting time just hanging out.
You'll come back, trust me.

As others posted, take a break and or try different you have not played a while. You have a ton of games, there must be some you have not played thru yet.

Re: Anyone have this feeling sometimes on video games?
It's cyclical. It happens. Between 2000-2009 I barely touched video games. Maybe played 50 hours total during those 9 years. I was big into music, CD/record collecting...
My collecting habits are winding down and I'll strictly be a video game "player" from now on - mainly for financial reasons.
Even if you find yourself losing interest now, I recommend not selling anything. You may end up regretting that, I've seen it time and again.

Yup. Everybody feels this way. That's why it's good to have a good selection of hobbies to choose from. Give it a week or two, and I guarantee when you pick up the controller you'll have fun.
Older. Not wiser.

These post are old. I got rid of these systems a while ago for bills etc. Thanks for the post everyone. I won't sell anything. Since Jan is here this is where I'm tight on cash like everyone else due to christmas. I'm going to put everything away and box everything and not buy or sell anything. No gamestores or craigslist or ebay also for the next month.CRTGAMER wrote:As others posted, take a break and or try different you have not played a while.
