Games where you're alone in an alien world
I'm looking for games where you are alone on some weird planet/alternative universe that's not like our world. The only games that I can think of that are like that are cinematic platformers: Another World/Out of this world, Blackthorne, Heart of Darkness and Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee+Exoddus. There is some interaction with friendly characters in all of those games but yet they have the feeling that you're in a completely weird and hostile (yet beautiful) place, alone (for the most of the time) and you feel very vulnerable. Are there any more games like that? There doesn't even have to be any enemies, just surviving the hazards of the alien environment (there's plenty of that in HoD/Oddworld) is good enough for me, that might even be better in fact.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus? You're pretty alone in those games, though it's not really an alien world....

Isn't that every game besides sports games and FPSs? Not trying to be a smart alec, I'm hard pressed to name a game where your character isn't in a different world (not that a different world).

Yeah, SotC fits the bill. A bit different maybe than those cinematic platformers but I enjoyed the open scenery, being alone and general "lack of life" in the game.deathsled wrote:Ico and Shadow of the Colossus? You're pretty alone in those games, though it's not really an alien world....
It's about the athmosphere and what kind of world it is. You could say that you're alone in an alien world in Sonic the hedgehog but its' an upbeat, colorful platformer so it doesn't really feel like Heart of Darkness or Another World where you are just literally teleported to another world that is just completely alien (scenery, what kind of monsters there are) and hostile. So you're trying to survive and figure out how to escape back to your world but you're also fascinated by this weird world you're in. No dialogue, no friendly characters, no signs of any kind of civilization, just you alone in a harsh and weird environment.Luke wrote:Isn't that every game besides sports games and FPSs? Yep. And these are likely the best games that fit this description that you'll find.MrHealthy wrote:Most of the Metroid games fit this bill.

I'd say Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne fits this bill rather well.

The original Unreal instantly jumps to mind; unfortunately the game has not aged very well.
