I love the Genesis. So many classic games, and so many titles I would still like to collect.
dime-a-dozen atari cart piles are sometimes my favorite thing to go through at flea markets and garage sales. .25 for Motor Psycho, Alien Brigade, and Star Wars: The Arcade Game? sure!

I'm perfectly ok with Genesis games being so cheap. The hipster/fanboy/whatever masses can have their super common NES/SNES games for $30 each if they really want. I can buy at least 6 CIB Sonic 2s for that and I'd play the heck out of each cartridge!

I should buy more Genesis games. I only have about 15-20 games now, but more is always better.

I've been a Nintendo kid my whole life and recently my wife got me a sega genesis for Christmas. It came with a few games like road rash and streets of rage and sonic. I gotta say... I am so stoked on Genesis collecting now. growing up I only got to play Genesis at my cousins. but now I finally have my own! I am very proud of my Genesis and looking forward to collecting Genesis games. I have noticed the Genesis games are much cheaper than SNES by a long shot. That's good news for me. I'm broke haha

Even when the genesis was current, I barely had a reason to own one. I had Sonic 2, Aladdin, and Toe Jam & Earl. If it weren't for the Sega CD, I doubt I would have owned one at all. The Super NES had the superior multiplatform games along with tons of other great games. The Genesis always seemed like nothing but sports games, inferior ports, terrible sounding synth, and a sloppy feeling controller.

I did wish that Nintendo had adopted the clamshell, though.

On the whole I won't entirely disagree with you regarding the multiplats, but you make it sound that bar a handful of games the Genesis wasn't even in the same league?

Let's see on a few examples,

-Cool Spot is much better on Genesis/MD. The Snes version misses sfx and the sound is muffled all the time...
-UMK3 on SNES is slow compared to the Genesis/MD version. Controls work better on Genesis/MD too.
-The Lion King is very similar on the two, but I prefer Genesis's sfx high quality
-Mickey Mania? SNES version is puuuuure crap!
-Robocop vs Terminator? Another SNES killer.
-Demolition Man? The same. Much more slowdown on SNES, muffled sounds...
-Aladdin is a different game in each one. But I really prefer Genny's...

"Tons of other great games" ?

I disagree, i think if they arent expensive NOW, they never will be, well maybe 80 years from now when they are considered "antique"

Because SNES games are at an all time high right now, people want $200 for Earthbound MINIMUM, $70 for Chrono Trigger MINIMUM, $150 for Aerofighters MINIMUM, $100 for EVO MINMUM, etc.... and if all of sudden all these games became worthless i would swoop this up as im still missing Earthbound and Chrono Trigger.

Also dont get me wrong, i have a Genesis but only 4 games, have Sonic 2, Castlevania Bloodlines, Contra Hard Corps and Phantasy Star IV, i also have the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on PS3, so i dont see a reason to get any games that are included in that.

There is plenty more id love to collect, but would rather spend money else where.
BoringSupreez wrote:There's two big reasons Genesis collecting is so much cheaper than SNES collecting: Sega doesn't make hardware anymore, and Sega's released so many huge Genesis compilations on modern systems. Nintendo would never put 30 of their best 16-bit games on one disc and sell it for $30.
I agree with this, Nintendo doesnt ever put out any GOOD compilations, we get "Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition" which is kind of weak and they should just put ALL the kirby games on it up till N64 maybe even the GBA ones.

Then we have the "Super Mario All-Stars: 25th Anniversary Edition" which was even more pathetic than the Kirby compilation, hell they could of at least threw Super Mario World and Yoshi's island on that damn thing, i have my sealed and dont ever see a reason to open it.

I think MD/Genesis games are simply cheaper because they are more common and so slightly easier to find,i like both the Snes and MD for different reasons but enjoy Genesis games more because there were simply a higher number of good titles for it.
I find it hard to believe people are asking for just Sonic and Hockey,i mean you really only need to play one hockey game and that`s it surely there are much better games?.

Sounds like a challenge!

I've always felt that the Genesis and SNES have very complimentary libraries. I really couldn't imagine not owning both these days.
