What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendations
Re: What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendat
I have zero interest in mahou shoujo, moe, loli, etc, but Madoka was pretty legit. I liked it and would probably even watch it again to soak in that mind-blowing animation and those really cool trippy scenes during segments where they fight Witches. I'll watch the movies too.

Madoka may be about little girls but it's definitely not a loli show. I'm not into that either. This has some of the best visual composition I've ever seen, and it was constant. Every single shot is worth pausing and soaking in. There is not a single frame that looks average. It's a triumph visually, and it's also really good storytelling. This is a really rare kind of show, you only get one or two of these every decade.
Can't wait next year's sequel movie.

I recently watched the Blu Ray of Claymore. I really enjoyed it overall, though it looks like it will end on a frustrating cliffhanger. Not sure if they will make follow up seasons or not.
I think the series started off very strong, then changed gears a bit in tone and style midway for a bit, and then finished off strong. I really liked the premise and the world/setting.
The main characters were pretty good, but some of the supporting characters were blah.

Sadly this is impossible unless they reboot it, because the anime deviates from the manga SO much it just completely takes its own turns at the end and for the worst. Kind of breaks canon beyond repair. I watched the anime first and felt pretty underwhelmed with the final arc, and then when I read that part in the manga it was just like 10x better, then the stuff that followed was amazing.Jmustang1968 wrote:I recently watched the Blu Ray of Claymore. Been years since I read it though, but I'll definitely revisit it someday when it finishes.

Oh, I didn't know it deviated from the source material so much.Xeogred wrote:Sadly this is impossible unless they reboot it, because the anime deviates from the manga SO much it just completely takes its own turns at the end and for the worst. My girlfriend's tried to get me to watch Madoka a few times. Sounds a little too depressing for me.
They could always do a Hellsing and make a new series that follows the manga more closely.Xeogred wrote:Sadly this is impossible unless they reboot it, because the anime deviates from the manga SO much it just completely takes its own turns at the end and for the worst.
