A big thanks to everyone in this thread. It helped me a lot in finding some cool games (as well as some of JT's free game threads). I've picked up a number of interesting titles. Many from GOG sales(I love the DRM free thing too), some from a humble indie bundle promotion, some free titles from GOG, generous gifts from friends, and a few from websites run by independent developers. I've focused on keeping things affordable, so lots of gog sales and cheap indie titles. It's the holidays, so I've made use of my holiday bonus from work and money given to me by others. Not every game was an exclusive, but a lot of them were. My list of owned games now is:

Lone Survivor
Thief Gold
Thief 2 The Metal Age
Dear Esther
To The Moon
Dungeon Keeper 2
Trine
Planetscape Torment
Tales of Monkey Island - all 5 chapters (Nice Tell tale sale on gog yesterday)
The Longest Journey
Nitrionic Rush
Portal 2 (free copy that came with my PS3 version)
Snapshot
Machinarium
Cat Poke
The Darkness 2 (I've beaten it on 360, but it was on an Xmas sale at Gamersgate)
Thirty Days of Loving (and Gravity Bone)
Theme Hospital
Ghost Master
Torchlight
Batman Arkham City
Borderlands 2
Shank 2
Abobo's Big Adventure
Closure
Legend of Grimrock
Plants vs Zombies Game of the Year
The Binding of Isaac+Wrath of the Lamb DLC
Hotline Miami
Anachronox
The Witcher Enhanced Edition
The Witcher 2 Enhanced
Deus X GOTY
Zeno Clash
Dungeon Defenders(Don't know anything about it, but it was part of the Humble Indie Bundle)
Cave Story
Desktop Dungeons (someone gave me a copy of this)
free copy of Civilization 5 gifted to me through Steam
Jamestown
Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams
Streetfighter X Mega Man
Metro 2033(The company was giving this game away for free recently)
Streets of Rage Remake V5(I actually got this many months ago while it was still easy to find on the net)
Bonesaw

Free GOG games
Lure of the Temptress
Duke Nukem 3d
Teenagent
Martian Dreams
Ultima 4
Treasure Adventure Game
Dragonsphere
Beneath a Steel Sky
Warsow
Worlds of Ultima The Savage Empire
Tyrian 2000

Older games I got many years ago when I was only dabbling in PC gaming
Starcraft
Tie Fighter
Diablo
The Star Wars Rebel Assault games
Grim Fandango
Blood Omen Legacy of Kain
X-wing vs Tie Fighter

Wow, have fun tackling that backlog.

Also don't forget the STALKER series.

Can we add aliens vs predator 2? Tecnically its like 11 years old but that game is the best aliens game ever made too bad the multiplayer servers are dead. This game deserves an HD rerelease on xbla, psn, and steam for sure!

Those damn sales man!

Seriously, some of the deals I've seen it's like they're giving these things away. Steam had a whole truckload of THQ games bundled together for 25 bucks today!

Yeah, THQ is going bankrupt.

Well, they declared chapter 11 bankruptcy, and will soon be under new ownership. Supposedly, they're not going anywhere. We shall see. Better get Stick of Truth out at least

That's alot of games  If you later decide to try out Curse of Monkey Island (despite being older, it's a lot better looking than Tales of Monkey Island as Tales uses 3D graphics), or any other old LucasArts games for that matter, download ScummVM. It's a program that's really simple to use that lets you play old adventure games effortlessly. And don't forget that Piratebay has an endless supply of free games :) If you cant find a game from Steam/GOG (some great games like System Shock 1+2 are unlikely to get released in GOG due to legal rights issues or because who ever owns the rights has gone defunct, or simply because they are so obscure), download the game from piratebay/some ROM site first and then buy the game if you still feel like it. Retro PC gaming and retro console gaming isn't quite similiar due to the fact that PC tech constantly evolves so you shouldn't feel bad about downloading older games, most of the companies who made these games have gone defunct a long time ago anyways.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I actually have played Curse of Monkey Island before. One of the few things my old computer could handle was scummvm games and I had the pleasure of playing Curse, Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango. I agree about preferring Curse's style to Tales, which I'm currently playing. That was the first thing that popped into my mind when I booted up Tales of Monkey Island. It's still fun though, but I don't know if it will be able to top Curse of Monkey Island as my favorite Monkey Island game. That was the best game in the original trilogy in my opinion

I do want to play the System Shock games at some point, but I'm a bit nervous about pirate sites. I don't want to risk getting viruses/malware now that I finally got a good PC that's up to modern standards. If anyone can point me in the direction of sites that are guaranteed to be safe I'm open to suggestion.
