Frasier>Cheers, Prime>2D Metroid, & other spinoff debates

I thought it might be interesting to see if other people here find that some spinoffs (not sequels) are more interesting/enjoyable than their originating material. The ones in the thread title spring to mind immediately for me, but I know some people will probably sharply disagree on those two....

So let's have a "catch-all" thread where we can discuss/debate spinoffs, side projects, solo albums, etc. Maybe you think the Warioware series is now better than the Mario series, that Mick Jagger's solo albums leave Stones records in the dust, that Angel > Buffy the TV show > Buffy the movie, that the jokes in AfterMASH were superior to Hawkeye's 4077 hijinks, that Puss in Boots > any of the Shrek films, etc. Do any of the spinoffs you enjoy surpass the quality found in their places of origin?

Spinoff's happen a lot in animation. Off the top of my head, my favorite ones are Daria and Pinky and the Brain.

I was never really fond of humor in Beavis and Butt-head, but I adored Daria. That said, I really wouldn't say that one was necessarily better than the other. They just took a different approach to humor that a lot of people will go one way or the other on.

And the Animaniacs was a great show, but the Pinky and The Brain segments were always my favorite. So when they got their own dedicated show I was quite pleased.

This is going to require a bit more thought on my part.

First thing that came to mind was Gargoyle's Quest. I love GnG, but man Gargoyle's Quest is awesome.

Pinky and the Brain was a much smarter show than Animaniacs.

no I just think that because it's one of my favorite shows of all time. Frasier (the show) doesn't have Cliff. /discussion.
