Wanted: someone to burn ROMS for me for repros

Post by scarmullet »

I am looking for someone who has the hardware to burn EPROMS and TSOP chips for use in Reproduction carts. I have no such equipment, and most EPROM burners use Serial..which My computer does not have.

I will pay you a fair price for the burned roms, and I won't ask you to burn stuff that was released in the US (like Earthbound). These will be for my own private collection, and won't be resold.

I do know how to solder, which is why I am asking for this, rather than going to gamereproductions (Game Reproductions has a similar service, but it seems to be for NES only).

I know about flash carts, but you know, sometimes grabing a cart off the shelf, putting it in the system...retrying for a few minutes because the contacts are dirty, seems to be a better experience than having a cart that has every game ever made, and available at the push of a button.

Flash carts definitely have their drawbacks, I hear ya on that one. If you buy a single game, you can put it on and actual experience it. When all of a sudden you have access to entire library, you might spend 5-10 minutes in each game and not actually experience any of them.

But flash carts have more benefits that definitely outweigh, especially compared to repros. For starters, translations and hacks are unofficial projects. They can be tweaked and updated in the future (and often are). If you have a repro, it's a whole process to update the ROM. And since you don't have your own burner, it'll be that much more difficult to do so. With a flash cart, it's as simple as 1, 2, 3 (sorry to sound so lame). Also with repros, you have to sacrifice a legit game (a donor cart) to make one. This is not the case with flash carts. Some might not care, but others do.

I'm not telling you what to do, these are just my own thoughts on the matter. Just thought I'd point these things out.

Anyways, to answer your question, I believe game reproductions can burn what you need. I know he only has the NES EPROMs on the site, but try emailing him and asking what you need done.

Can't recommend anyone for eeprom burning, but I wanted to mention that you can get a usb-to-serial adapter pretty cheaply. I got one so I could put games on my Texas Instruments calculators. It's driver screen allows much more configuration than I've ever seen in a PC bios screen.

If you are successful, you could offer the service here. Your question has come up here before, and usually the answer involves PMing someone on another forum.
