PS2 RPGs with equips that show up on your char?

I'm currently on a PS2 RPG kick, and so far I can see why it's the go-to console for RPG fans, as there's a lot of quality titles especially when compared to the GC and Xbox. But I'm looking for titles where armor and weapon that you equip actually show up on your character - most of them only show the weapons changing even if I manage to get the super-duper-mega-rare-ancient armor in the game, which sort of takes a bit of enjoyment out of equip-collecting.

Any PS2 RPGs you guys know that will let me pimp out my char?

So far the only title I've got that fit the bill is Shining Force Exa. I currently have Toma at level 200 and with full sets of all the end game armor and equips. The best one is called the phoenix suit, but it makes Toma look like dressed chicken, literally.

I'm not sure if it counts as RPG, but Monster Hunter works for me too.

Ys: Ark Of Naphishtim does this. There are usually 5 or 6 sets of equipment in Ys games.

pfffttt, i love rpg's where you can actually see the armor and weapons that you equip your characters with, like omg this is a HUUUUGE feature on WoW and probably one of the main reasons people play WoW, especially since they added Transmogrification (allows you to make a piece of armor look like another of the same armor class).

Even though WoW isnt JRPG or console RPG related, i feel its worth noting!

That's because WoW is a social game. Personalization is a big deal and whatever you're wearing is also a status symbol.

In a jRPG it doesn't matter. I agree, I would like to see unique weapons and armor. It's strange when the infinity+1 sword looks the same as the wooden sword you started with. It's stranger when you remove your weapons but your sprite still has a sword. This is a cool feature, but it's hardly a reason to play the game unless you're really into jRPG dress up. Some games have secret costumes. I generally don't care though, I wouldn't buy a game based on this and I'm fine with it not being there.

Actually, I could see an otaku-targeted game that lets you give your characters haircuts, non-combat accessories, etc. If it were popular that kind of feature might become more common in the future.

The first one that comes to my mind is Rogue Galaxy. Those items and armor do show up if I remember right.

Dragon Quest VIII has the sword and shields reflect on what is equipped, and specific characters have costumes that change depending on the armor they have equipped.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm gonna try out the Rogue Galaxy thing, as the googs says it uses active combat, compared to turn based on DQVII.

As for WoW, yeah. Equips are going to show up on the character, for reasons Valkyrie-Favor stated. I was only looking at ps2 games (or older consoles), since the feature I was looking for is sorta rare old console-wise. If we're going to include PC games then we get a ton of choices: Aside from majority of MMOs these days, we also have single player titles like Torchlight, Kingdoms of Amalur, and Skyrim where your character reflects the gear you outfit him with.

As for my reasons, I just want to see what my character worked so hard to farm/buy, without having to hit a monster with it. I don't really see that as odd so much as just wanting to experience the most out of the gear customization aspect of the games, even if it's a single player game and there's no way of showing it off to people. Maybe I want it for the same reason some people change their desktop/celphone wallpapers regularly.

The PS2 Persona games show your weapon, and FES has certain armor which shows on the characters in the dungeons.

Im going to disagree with armor and weapons showing up because its a "social" game, i dont care what others think my character looks like and would continue to play if the servers would bone-bare, there is tons of stuff to do that doesnt require the interaction of others in WoW.

And yes for ME i would love to see a JRPG with total armor and weapon art on characters, however it takes alot of work to have all that armor and weapons show up on your characters frame, Blizzard puts a ton of work into having all the races show the exact same gear in different proportions.
