Will the Philips CD-i only play certain Video CDs?

Post by ReddMcKnight »

Hey all. I tried burning a Video CD, and I encoded it in MPEG-1, the CD-i's Video Format, but it didn't work, which leads to the question: Will the CD-i only play Video CDs that were made specifically for it, or will it play any Video CD and I just did something wrong?

The Philips CD-i plays VCD's, you need to create a VCD image (Try to get hold of something like Philips Video CD 2.0 Toolkit) and then burn it as a VCD. You can not just place MPEG-1 files on a CD.

To be honest Redd, it's not worth the effort.

Do you have the digital video cartridge installed in your CD-i?
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Indeed I do, and while I just tried to create another with Nero, that didn't work either.

Maybe a bad DVC can you try any non burns to verify, or try reinserting the cartridge?

If theres only one DVC model, then there shouldn't be any compatibility issues?

Good luck Redd
