The recent focus on video games seems like a distraction from the real issues surrounding the shooting...

Maybe they should shut down the gun range his Mom routinely took him too so they could fire off her weapons. I don't understand why that is swept under the rug here but...VIDEO GAMES.

I assume that most countries without many gun deaths have very strict bans on games with violence in them. That's why we should follow suit.

Truthfully, though, I don't see the argument from anti-gun control folks about "changing the culture" as I don't think that, in an age of increased global culture, there's really much substantive difference in entertainment between nations with vastly different gun death rates. The difference, in most cases, is gun control legislation.

The NRA is making an official statement in around an hour. I know they have to make a statement, but it will be empty.

ESPN knows how to tug on the heart strings. I've probably cried little during every Make A Wish they cover. I'm usually a wreck if I even think about those segments.

The "changing the culture" argument is basically the same as South Park's "Chewbacca" defense. If people to focus on the merits of violent films and video games, they will forget the real issue...which is the implementation of reasonable gun control legislation.

Is anybody watching the NRA statement? Wayne LaPierre name-dropped Splatterhouse when he was scapegoating video games. That game is how old? [Edit: Whoops, didn't realize there was a newer game in the series. But still, so much for any hopes of the NRA taking a different stance, as dim as those hopes were.]

So far, two protesters have interrupted him.

Blame it on guns, blame it on video games, blame it on hormones in the food...

The can blame it on anything they want, when it gets down to it, it becomes the responsibility of the individual, or in cases where the individual isn't fit to care for themselves, in the hands of family and close friends.
