My First SEGA Year in Review...

Post by marlowe221 »

Christmas Day will mark the end of my first Sega year. I received a Sega Genesis with several games as a Christmas present last year - the console I always wanted to try after growing up on the SNES side of the console wars back in the day.

It's been a great year with the Genesis!

So far I have:
Shinobi 3
Streets of Rage 2
Sonic 1
Truxton
Thunderforce 2
Starflight
Beyond Oasis
Shadow Dancer
Risk

My favorites so far are Shadow Dancer, Starflight, and Streets of Rage 2. Sadly, the only game I have been able to beat so far is SoR2 (damn that falling rock level in Shinobi 3, damn it to hell). But I am well on my way to beating Shadow Dancer at its default difficulty. I am convinced I will never see the end of Truxton outside of Youtube.

I am still a Sega n00b and there are many, many games I want to try out but I am loving it so far!

Just wanted to share. :)
Have: Sega Genesis, SNES, Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari 800XL, PC, N3DS XL, Wii U, GBA, Xbox One, Switch

Very nice start. I'm a fan of Starflight too. The Genesis version is great.

If I might, can I recommend Revenge of Shinobi, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Thunder Force III, Phantasy Star II and Shining Force for your next 6 games? I promise, they will all give you much pleasure. Well, some of them might also give you some pain... but it's the good kind.

Those are all on my list actually! I have watched some videos of most of those games (as well as others). Based on that I think Shinobi 3 is likely to turn out to be my least favorite Shibobi game....

I also want Phantasy Star 4, Shining Force 2, Rocket Knight Adventures, Golden Axe, and so on and so on. Amazon sellers are my friends!

The Genesis version is the BEST version, IMHO.

Too bad Star Control 2 never made it to the Genesis.

I picked up a Genesis towards the start of last year as well and I've been enjoying that as well. I'd suggest the Genesis 6-Pak. Granted all 6 games are able to be gotten elsewhere but it's a great compilation cart. If you like platformers Quackshot has been interesting as well.

Nice little read! Thanks for sharing.

That's a fantastic selection of Genesis games to begin on, too.

I've been getting into the Genesis this year myself... Think I picked up about 20-ish games, it's a great console. Now I'm on the hunt for Phantasy Star IV and Shining Force I & II.

These are my favorite kind of threads, I'm glad you could dive into SEGA and enjoy the system. It's a nice amount of games too - not overboard where you couldn't possibly spend enough time with each.

Looks like it's been a great year for you! Exploring the Genesis' library will keep you busy for years.

Just curious, is your system a Model 1, 2, or 3?
