Snes cart molds?
I want to make a mold of a SNES cart shell so that I can produce replacements without destroying legitimate carts just for the shells. I was hoping someone on here could recommend a good place to get a mold made up? I have the funds to do it, just need a pointer in the right direction

Just get some licensed sport game carts and use those

Re: Snes cart molds?
Thats what I want to avoid for two reasons:
1) People usually dont give a shit about those games, so they tend to be in awful physical shape (yellowed, cracked, covered in an unknown sticky substance...)
2) Regardless if the game sucks or not, I'd still rather have a quality replacement shell that can be used instead of taking it from another game.

I had posted this in the Nintendo section, but I figured I'd add it here as well as it sort of falls into the same category...

Re: Snes cart molds?
There's resin mold kits you can buy. They're not too expensive. You can then use it to cast in various types of plastics.
You'll want to do things like cover up holes for screws. You'll have to drill them manually later.
Just look up a tutorial on doing it. It's a small enough job to do at home and professional casting and molding doesn't make sense unless you're making a huge batch.

I believe you need to look at injection molding.

There happens to be a place in town here that does that, so I'll give that a try thanks! Hopefully it doesnt cost $4k for a mold

Re: Snes cart molds?
Hobie-wan mentioned Injection Molding, so I may check that out as well... kind of a new area for me, so not really sure what the best method is for a replica cart shell. I wish bunnyboy from RetroUSB answered his emails more often

^Keep us updated, if you don't mind. If they're not expensive, I imagine a number of people who may want to also acquire replacement shells.
Re: Snes cart molds?
For sure, seeing as nobody really makes them I would assume there would be some demand for it. I wont be able to check into it until the new year, but as soon as i have made a little progress I'll post it here
