VC and real SNES

Post by RCBH928 »

Hello

I want to ask those who tried VC , do they feel any advantage in the gaming experience in playing games like mario on a real snes console, or its the same?

my second question is , does the classic controller works with pc's?

The real advantages to VC games are the fact that they aren't on carts so they won't lose your save game, or die all together. Also some VC games have been slightly upgraded in terms of graphics (not really SNES games tho). But if you want to let your friend borrow the game, it's not gonna happen because the games are unlocked on your console via the internet, not via the game file. I saw some sorry sap put up an SD card full of VC games on ebay and I felt bad for whoever thought they were getting a deal, because none of those games were going to work.

As for your other question, I have no idea. However since the Wiimote can be connected to a PC via Bluetooth then I would assume it would transmit the classic controller's button presses.

I couldn't answer your first question. As for your second, however...you mean can you get an NES controller working for your computer?

Try Phreque.

In the meantime, there's also this guide.

i've got a few games on the virtual console, but in my opinion nothing beats the feeling of playing the actual cart on the console itself. now i just use vc for games that are too pricey to buy the actual cart of, like harvest moon or super mario rpg

I've been into emulation since 1996. No matter how good the software is playing on the real thing is always better. Even clone hardware drives me insane. I guess it depends how much you like a system. I can understand emulating arcade games because pcbs/superguns/cabinets are expensive. And they're also large, and probably more easy to damage. Emulation is a great way to test out a game. But if you seriously enjoy it then no emulator can even come close to the original experience.

I'll take the real thing over emulation any day, hands down. But I have to say, Virtual Console is a lot better then emulation. At least the game itself plays and sounds like it would on a real system. As for the controller, I can't see how N64 games can be much fun on the classic controller, but I haven't tried it yet (don't have to, they don't have any games on VC that I don't already own N64 cart for, or want). But as far as SNES goes, the classic controller is great, you almost don't notice the difference.

NES games work really on the Virtual Console, in my opinion. But, they never released Super Mario All Stars on the Virtual Console, so I bought an SNES with that game and I haven't touched any of my VC games since. There's not much point, aside from the rare unobtainable gems like Sin & Punishment (Japanese N64 game).

Well my reason for using the VC is so that I don't have to have all my consoles connected to the TV and or play via emulators on the PC going out to the TV (which is what I usually did). The VC for me is just the easiest solution and well, the laziest.
