Nope, because Nintendo's troubleshooting team led me to believe three things:
1 - The problem was a software issue that could not be fixed via firmware
2 - I was being given 2 day shipping both ways
3 - The repair would take a single day
Add these three things up and sending it to Big N seemed like the thing to do. I was busy at the time and didn't have time to play games anyway.
Now Nintendo says it's not a manufacturer's problem (which it is) and Target is not going to accept the item back because it's been opened, shipped around the country, AND I'm outside the grace period. Also, no damage to the system's box to show that it was their fault (it wasn't).

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Wow, what a conundrum. I would throw it on eBay with a full explanation and try to cut your losses.

And I suppose you make enough money that you can spend $500 on a system and games and just walk away from it?dsheinem wrote:Wow, what a conundrum. I would throw it on eBay with a full explanation and try to cut your losses.

No, I think if I spent $500 and was forced to spend another $90 due to manufacturer incompetence I would try to get rid of the thing for as close to $500 as possible rather than spend more money on it.Flake wrote:And I suppose you make enough money that you can spend $500 on a system and games and just walk away from it?dsheinem wrote:Wow, what a conundrum. No offense Dave but I think that the financial loss represented by spending $90 more than the asking price is insignificant to the bath I'd take putting a broken system on ebay.

I think you need to call Nintendo again and ask to speak to the supervisor's manager. I also suggest that you write an email/letter explaining your situation. There's no way that you should be paying for the warranty repair.
Just be firm, persistent and escalate up the chain. Write down the day/time/names of the people you speak to.

Well it would be a gamble, sure, but I don't know that you'd sell it for less than $410 at all. Maybe I am being unrealistic, but I'd rather have $300-$400 back in my pocket to spend on something from a company that didn't piss me off than $600 out to play on something that will potentially irritate me every time I start it up.Flake wrote:No offense Dave but I think that the financial loss represented by spending $90 more than the asking price is insignificant to the bath I'd take putting a broken system on ebay.
To be honest I am really surprised Nintendo are being such stubborn assholes about the whole thing. You'd think they'd want to treat an early adopter with a little more deference.

He could always threaten to publish the story of his ordeal on the main site, The Consumerist, other gaming message boards, etc...gtmtnbiker wrote:I think you need to call Nintendo again and ask to speak to the supervisor's manager. that's the part that gets me. I feel like you're going to fucking hate the console everytime you look at it. Which sucks, cuz you were actually excited about it.dsheinem wrote:Flake wrote: to spend on something from a company that didn't piss me off than $600 out to play on something that will potentially irritate me every time I start it up.

Lol, you are always an incredible optimist when it comes to eBay prices.dsheinem wrote: Well it would be a gamble, sure, but I don't know that you'd sell it for less than $410 at all. Maybe I am being unrealistic...
My thoughts, too. Their customer service has always been fantastic. This is not my first time getting a repair from them. Hell, my original launch Wii had problems out of the box and that was taken care of within seven days, door-to-door...and I was living in freaking Hawaii at the time!To be honest I am really surprised Nintendo are being such stubborn assholes about the whole thing.
