I didn't see any brick and mortar places to check one out, BUT..

walmart.com currently has them (as of 12/18/12). Free store pickup (they'll ship to store), OR free shipping. Looks like your best option right now if you're looking to jump on the bandwagon.

Just hooked my NGX a couple hours ago and I must say I'm in love with it. Like other members have mentioned, the packaging is just awesome - down to the white boxes and NEOGEO stickers. Both the docking station and joystick are on the littler side, but that does not mean they feel cheap (to me anyway). The handheld itself feels great - an extremely solid build with buttons that don't feel squishy and a joystick that feels just as perfect as the NEOGEO pocket. One odd design choice though is the inclusion of two sets of shoulder buttons. Both L's and R's do the same exact thing - why they're there, I have no clue.

Though the visuals on the LCD look good, I can't say the same for outputting to the TV even through HDMI - it simply looks like the image is being blown up for the screen (compared to my Saturn's s-video output, this might as well be in composite; I'm playing on an LCD). I wasn't expecting AI CMVS pixel-perfect perfection, but I was just a tidbit disappointed with that. It also seems you can't play in 4:3 resolution while outputting to the TV, maybe I'm just doing something wrong? Either way, I've gotten my money's worth and I suggest fellow SNK fans pick one up before the price gouging begins. With the amount of happy customers over at NG.com (including me), here's hoping Tommo/SNK really show some support for this little guy.

I should be getting mine today. From all of the pics and impressions it seems like it's great. Never had a console Neo Geo so hopefully this will hold me over till I manage to get one.

I'm pretty certain you can switch to 4:3 when outputting to the TV , at least from what I read in the n-g.com review. Must be an option somewhere.

So after spending a little time on it, here's some more thoughts.

The console's little thumbstick - it's nice, and though very reminiscent of the original Neo Geo pad and the Pocket's pad, it's not the same. It's a little stiffer and I can tell it's not as easy to push, as well as being louder. Im not positive, but I dont know if the X's thumbstick actually has microswitches like the Pocket and the NG Pad. It doesn't feel exactly as I remember.

Also, to be fair, I dont have a Neo Pocket or a Neo pad to compare, so I could just be remembering wrong. I do see the mild texturing on the X's thumbstick going smooth with plenty of use and it will likely get slippery which might eventually present a control problem. Also, I think the concave-ness of the Pad and NGPC's thumbstick was a little deeper than this one. So it's not exact, but clearly they put thought into it to make it as close as they could.

Volume Buttons: The buttons here do as they are designed, but I noticed that the amount of volume changed per button press is rather large. Meaning if you have it on the lowest volume setting, it's still relatively loud in your earphones. Not deafening of course, but enough to where you can't really hear if someone is calling you in the other room.

The L and R buttons also seem sorta useless. The L1 and L2 buttons do the same thing, putting it into 4:3 or 16:9 mode. The R1 and R2 just pause the game. I wonder if Tommo is planning on making new games for this. Otherwise, it seems like making working buttons on the shoulder when the Neo is a 4 button machine would be a waste of money and production. The back has a nice rubbery grip with a really nice chromed "SNK" logo in the middle. It's very stylish. I also love that like the Neo, it's got stereo speakers. They are a little tinny, but really this should be played with earphones anyway.

One thing I wonder about though, is charging the machine. The manual in the box says to charge the X ONLY with the docking station. Also, unless mine is messed up, it only charges the console if you turn the docking station ON. I would have figured it would charge while off, but I guess that's not a big deal. But what about people that will buy the stand alone model without the docking station? The A/C adapter that comes with the machine is a pipe style charging pin, while the X has a microUSB port. I plugged it into my computer and it seems to have wanted to charge (the light came on) but I didn't leave it plugged in for very long just in case. Also while plugged into my PC, it came up as a mass storage device, with a gig of empty space.

Great info. Has anyone placed the ninja masters SD card in their PC yet? Anyone want to "go rogue" and try writing to this card?

The guys at NG.com have already tried - no go. Since the X is Linux based, it's only time before someone opens this baby up.

Fun fact: the joystick works on the PS3

Mine just shipped. I had to gently remind GameStop, who had apparently forgotten about my order.
