Hello
One game I love a lot is phantasmagoria, it has a lot of nostalgia for me, plus I think its the creepiest game ever. I was afraid to play this game, The full video and story is really scary. As I explore more I found gabriel knight is a similar game but with positive reviews. I also like to play jazz jackrabbit.
Isn't dos one of the most retro platforms , and this is a retro site? Why is it being neglected, a lot of great and memorable games are released for this "system". Why you never thought of support it. or is this retro consoles only?
I am sorry if you already do , I couldn't find it listed on the forums or in the guides. I want to paly dos games including monkey island, duke nukem, and disc world if it does exist for dos.

Re: Support DOS
The site is more oriented towards retro console games, though many of us spent equal time with the pc in the past. Heck some of my favorite games of all time are SCUMM titles - Indy Fate of Atlantis, The Dig, and Monkey Island.
Re: Support DOS
Phantasmagoria is one of my favorites, too--I love the aesthetic of the 90's FMV games for some odd reason. A failed experiment to be sure, but still quite entertaining. Some other games in the same genre include Ripper (STARRING CHRISTOPHER WALKEN among others)), Toonstruck! (With Christopher Lloyd), a recent indie-made game (shot on DV) called Fate By Numbers that's freely available. I'm a veritable encyclopedia of info on this genre, heh.
Re: Support DOS
Well chief, if you're looking for an easy way to play those games, try the emulator DOSBox. I was using it a few months back to play through Zone 66 again.
There are some old classics I do enjoy. Monkey Island's been said, but I just have to say it again. Sheer awesomeness. Toss in titles like Solar Wind, Ken's Labyrinth, Dare 2 Dream...classic stuff.

Man. I have a box full of floppy's with DOS games. It angers me that my old computer crashed, and i cant play any of them anymore. My current machine is to "jetsons" for those "flintstones" games. Just cant get them running properly.
Re: Support DOS
I was just about to recommend DosBox too.
It's great for emulating legacy computers, which are no longer supported by modern PCs.

Were you able to finish "The Dig" without a guide?fastbilly1 wrote:The site is more oriented towards retro console games, though many of us spent equal time with the pc in the past. Heck some of my favorite games of all time are SCUMM titles - Indy Fate of Atlantis, The Dig, and Monkey Island.
By the way as others have stated DOSBox is the way to go for DOS gaming. If you're interested in PnC Adventures for the DOS you can also check out ScummVM

Sadly no, I had to use one for that damn turtle puzzle.
If you are running old games and they run to fast grab mo'slo. Some DOS games just like to run really fast on a modern processor. Some people have had luck playing games in virtual machines/sandboxes but I never have been able to get those to work right. I use to make it a game to get any game work on xp, now I just keep an old Win98 machine around - Go Pentium 90.

Same here i have a 133mhz pentium to play dosgames. I like the dosbox emulator but at the time it couldn emulate Daggerfall well enough so i finally got around putting together an actual dosbox.
Re: Support DOS
I managed to get through The Dig once without a guide, though I used one to get the second ending.
Still, one of my all time favorite games, and a WONDERFUL soundtrack.
