Sega Saturn collecting - what am I missing?

Post by Krejlooc »

I've been collecting Sega Saturn games since it's launch in the US, and slowly but surely I've bought what I think is virtually every good game on the system. I hunger for more and ask if anybody can think of anything offhand that I'm missing, with the caviat that the games must be able to be played either in english, or with an extensive guide (ala Wachenroder and Princess Crown). This, unfortunately, leaves Grandia out of the question. My collection (all are fully boxed NTSC-U unless otherwise noted):

-Astal
-Afterburner (jp)
-Akumajo Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight (jp)
-Bug
-Bug Too
-Burning Rangers
-Croc
-Clockwork Knight
-Clockwork Knight 2
-Daytona USA
-Daytona USA CCE
-Dark Savior
-Dragonball Z: Legends (euro)
-Dragonball Z: Shin Butoden (jp)
-Die Hard Arcade
-Die Hard Trilogy
-Deep Fear (euro)
-Dragon Force
-Duke Nukem 3D
-Fighters Megamix
-Fantasy Zone (jp)
-Fighting vipers (jpn)
-Guardian Heroes
-Gale Racer (jpn)
-Galactic Attack
-Golden Axe Duel
-House of the Dead
-In the Hunt
-Legend of Oasis
-Lemmings 3D (euro)
-Last Bronx
-Magic Knight Rayearth
-Megaman 8
-Megaman X4
-Mortal Kombat Trilogy
-Mr. Bones
-NiGHTS into Dreams/Christmas NiGHTS
-Night Warriors: Dark stalker's revenge
-Outrun (jp)
-Psychic Killer taromaru (jp)
-Panzer Dragoon
-Panzer Dragoon Zwei
-Panzer Dragoon Saga
-Powerslave
-Quake
-Radiant Silvergun (jp)
-Sihlouette Mirage
-Saturn Bomberman
-Shining Force III
-Shining Force III sc 1 (jpn)
-Shining Force III sc 2 (jpn)
-Shining Force III sc 3 (jpn)
-Shining Force III premium disk (jpn)
-Shining Wisdom
-Shining in the Holy Ark
-Space Harrier (jp)
-Sega Ages vol 1
-Sonic R
-Sonic 3D Blast
-Sonic Jam
-Street Fighter Collection
-Street Fighter Zero
-Street Fighter Zero 2
-Street Fighter Zero 3
-Thunder Force V
-Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
-Virtual On (+ twinsticks)
-Virtua Fighter
-Virtua Fighter Remix
-Virtua Fighter 2
-Virtua Racing
-Virtua Cop
-Virtua Cop 2
-Vampire Savior (jp)
-Wachenroder
-Waku Waku 7
-Wipeout 2097 (euro)
-X-men vs Street Fighter

EDIT: Also ST-V games:
-Cotton 2
-Radiant Silvergun
-Virtua Fighter Remix
-Virtua Fighter Kids

Note that I own the CPS2 versions of both dungeons n dragons games, and Neo Geo AES or MVS versions of every SNK game released on the saturn that had a neo geo port, hence their odd exclusion. Is there anything major that I'm missing that would really round out my collection?

look here: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sega/sat ... d-shooters

Many feel Battle Garegga is the best shmup ever, so maybe begin adding the games in the list starting with that one...

I'd snag a copy of Albert Odyssey if you can find it.

I probably should have clarified that, if it was released in the arcades, I generally go after the actual arcade board instead. Hence why Thunder Force V and Radiant Silvergun are on the list, but not a whole lot else. Most of my capcom games on the list were purchased before I picked up my CPS2. I'm pretty much looking for Saturn-exclusives or console-exclusive games at this point.

Suggestions like this are why I turn to racketboy. I knew there had to be some stuff I missed out on.

If you like shoot 'em ups (which I assume you do) I can recommend some Japanese games:
Gradius Deluxe Pack
Gunbird
Jikkyo Oshaberi Parodius
Parodius Deluxe Pack
Salamander Deluxe Pack
Sexy Parodius
Twinbee Deluxe Pack

JUST OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD, which is why I'm almost exclusively listing Konami games. :P

[I'll second Albert Odyssey. It's a pretty generic JRPG, but if you like that kind of thing, it's a fun time!]

I think my girlfriend might be getting me salamander deluxe for christmas. I got an MSX over the summer and she and I played through salamander on it, and we both loved it. She knows I'm trying to lock down my Saturn collection, and she's dropped enough hints that I think she may have picked it up for me.

I adore konami, so feel free to list worthy games from them. Speaking of which - is Contra Legacy of War worth picking up?

I immediately want to say "no."
BUT I've actually been playing a fair share of top down run 'n guns lately so I'm going to revisit that one soon and see if I have a different take on it...

just don't try to play the game in "3D"

These are purely personal preference, but you may want to look at:

Deep Fear
Digital Pinball: Necronomicon
Hyper Duel
Three Dirty Dwarves

There's quite a bit that seems to be missing from your collection. I'm going to start by recommending you look through this article: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/best-und ... turn-games

Also:

Bulk Slash
Blazing Heroes
Cotton Boomerang
D
Dezaemon 2
Enemy Zero
Guardian Force
Herc's Adventure
Hissatsu
Keiou Yuugekitai
Rayman
Super Tempo
Thunder Force Gold Packs 1 & 2

If you like puzzle games:

Baku Baku
Kururinpa
Magical Drop
Puzzle Bobble
Puyo Puyo

Edit: Glaringly obvious, and completely missed it, but you need Shinobi Legions, like, badly.

I actually do own it, I forgot to list it. I have Shinobi X, the European version. Better soundtrack. Your list is full of glaring omissions, though, like Enemy Zero and Cotton Boomerang. Thanks!
