I have suikoden 1 and 2 coming in the mail, time to see why this series is so beloved. Are the ps2 games any good?

3 is great. I havent played 4 or 5 yet, but I hear most shit on 4 but praise 5. 5 goes back to the roots more it seems.ninjainspandex wrote:I have suikoden 1 and 2 coming in the mail, time to see why this series is so beloved. Are the ps2 games any good?
Suikoden 1 is a good game. It has its flaw, but a must play for an RPG fan.
Now 2 is amazing. It picks up where 1 left off and basically improved on most every aspect while keeping the same formula.

I'm getting close to the end of P4 Golden. I'm on the second-to-last dungeon of the main game, and then there's the two bonus dungeons (one of which is new to Golden).

Played Ys I a bunch. Just entered Darm Tower, so I'm about halfway through the game.

III gets a lot of love but the battle system is kind of chunky and slow. I couldn't really get into it, but didn't give it a full shot. IV is universally kind of bad from everything I hear... though also never tried this one out myself, but just look up videos of it and everything, doesn't look too great. V on the other hand is easily one of my favorite JRPG's on the PS2 and it ties into the first two a fair bit. Huge game too. I've never played Tactics, but it looks like it's got potential.ninjainspandex wrote:I have suikoden 1 and 2 coming in the mail, time to see why this series is so beloved. Are the ps2 games any good?
One of my favorite things about the first two games though is how you can practically look at them as one huge game. They tie in directly a lot with many recurring characters and everything. The first is a great game, and the second improves upon everything and is quite a bit longer. Epic stuff. I tend to say when it comes to stories in JRPG's, Suikoden II and Xenogears are my top two favorites by a long shot.

Just finished Ys I on Master System.
Damn this version is tough (and somewhat tedious). I wouldn't recommend it for anyone except for Ys fanatics.
Otherwise you're much better off playing this on the DS, PSP, or better yet - the Turbo Duo.
Not sure what I'll play next, I have a busy couple of weeks ahead. I think I'd like to play Grandia I & II back-to-back sometime before the winter is over.
