Best True Atari 2600 Exclusives

Post by prfsnl_gmr »

Last night, I cleaned up my Atari 2600 console and decided that I need to acquire some games for that system; however, I already own multiple Atari 2600 compilations, such as:

The Atari Anthology
http://www.amazon.com/Atari-Anthology-X ... B0002VS8T2

and

The Activision Anthology;
http://www.amazon.com/Activision-Anthol ... B00006Z7HQ.

Accordingly, I would like to focus my collection on "true" Atari 2600 exclusives. By that, I mean Atari 2600 games that have never been ported to other systems and are not available (legally) anywhere except on the console itself. I suspect that many of these games will be based on licensed properties (i.e., Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Spider-Man, E.T., etc.), and I hope that this thread will become a guide for people who - like myself - already own the compilations but would like to see what else the system has to offer.

So...what are the best "true" Atari 2600 exclusives?
Alien
Bank Heist
Crash Dive
Dragonstomper
E.T.
Fantastic Voyage
Fast Eddie
Fast Food
Gopher
Halloween
Indy 500
Journey: Escape
Jr. Pac-Man
Kool Aid Man
MASH
Mega Force
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Reactor
Solaris
Spider Man
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Superman
Towering Inferno
Turmoil

Reactor - Exclusive to 2600, this game reeeeally should have been released on the 5200 which has the best Trakball. The 2600 is a good rendition though for its capabilities, has a nice guitar riff at the opening screen and can be played with the 2600 Trakball.

I've always wanted to pick up a Starpath Supercharger so I could play Dragonstomper - the first console RPG! I don't think it's been ported anywhere else.

Stellar Track - On the opposite side of Solaris, a game based on Main Frame Star Trek games back in the day. Only came out as a Sears game cart for the 2600, simple graphics and text, but very in depth gameplay. :D

Was going to say H.E.R.O. but apparently that was on a bunch of platforms.

Turmoil is a great game, sort of like a flattened out version of Tempest is the best way I can describe it.

Don't be fooled by that Sears thing, the Sears Tele-Games was just an Atari VCS with a different name slapped on it. I'll try to think of some more.

Indy 500
Combat
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Dodge 'Em
Superman
Surround
Gopher
Fast Food
Towering Inferno

Probably most of those 20th Century Fox Games:
Fantastic Voyage
Fast Eddie
MASH
Alien
Halloween

Now that I think of it, there were a bunch of companies that probably only made 2600 games to cash in on the early 80's bonanza.

Thanks! I really appreciate the recommendations, and I hope to come up with a pretty substantial list.

(I will be leaving Combat, Dodge 'Em, Stellar Track, and Surround off, however, because all of those games are available on various Atari collections.)
