Re: So...Borderlands 2?
I got this today on PC. It's pretty cool. There's lots of funny dialog. The weapons seem kind of standard fare so far. I heard the Borderlands games had a lot of crazy weapons. I've made it up to the part where you have to hoist that robot up with a crane playing solo. The gunstock iron is my current weapon of choice (I think that's what it's called if I remember correctly). I zoom in and try to go for headshots with it. It seems to do good damage even on body shots
Being mostly a console gamer for most of my life, it's taking a while to get used to mouse and keyboard. The mouse gives me incredible speed and accuracy, but using wasd to move around still feels a bit weird and my wrists hurt like hell playing with mouse and keyboard. When I switch to my logitech controller it feels so much more comfortable and I know exactly what all the buttons do so it's more intuitive and instinctive, but the speed and accuracy of my shooting goes down. I wish I could find a happy medium between controller and mouse/keyboard.
Game's pretty damn tough solo, but I've been holding my own, especially since I got the Gunstock Iron

Hopefully with a new desktop I can gather up some money to buy this and BF 3... I need to sell some games on ebay first.. I may sell one of my Vitas also... That should pretty much cover the cost of a couple of PC games and a Wii U game( only have Nano Assualt Neo on it)...

Re: So...Borderlands 2?
Got my xim edge adaptor last week that allows for mouse and keyboard use on the xbox 360, been playing alot of borderlands 2 and black ops 2 with it. Works amazing lol kinda feels like cheating in mutiplayer but the way i look at its cheating as much as using an arcade stick for fighters is cheating. Why should i be held back by inferior controls, i really hope the nexgen xbox and playstation support m/k fully and natively.

I'm having fun with it, but I haven't seen anything yet that makes it different from any other shooter so I don't completely understand all the hype it's generated, but it's a very well made game and has some great dialogdsheinem wrote:B2 is likely my GOTY. Why'd you get it on PC then?
I'm sure I'll get torn up for this, but I own it for both (got that greenmangaming deal for the PC copy), and I just honestly like Borderlands a lot more on the consoles, both games. Think I also prefer to solo them. I can take my time and look around, take all the loot. I must be weird.

Re: So...Borderlands 2?
Funny you mention the console/PC thing. I only just recently got a computer capable of playing modern games. So naturally I wanted to get some stuff to play on it. Borderlands 2 is a game that has gotten a lot of hype and people usually say shooters are better on PC. So I figured I'd give it a shot on PC, since I'm now able to do so.Xeogred wrote:Why'd you get it on PC then?

I started out playing on mouse and keyboard to see if it really gives that huge advantage that people always say mouse and keyboard has over controllers for shooters. Based on my own personal experience, that's only half true. Sure the mouse is awesome, it lets you aim quickly and accurately, but using the keyboarod to move around and perform certain functions is really unintuitive and clumsy. Any time I want to do something like crouch or throw a grenade my fingers always hit the wrong key or I'll hit the right key but then lift my other fingers off the wasd movement keys and have to fumble around to get them back into position. All of that stuff is so much easier with a controller. Every button is easily accessible making some things easier to do in the thick of a fire fight and controllers are just much easier on your left wrist unless you have a really good ergo set up. Downside is, once you switch to controller you notice just how much harder it is to quickly line up shots using the analog instead of a mouse.
So now I find myself using the controller more, but in an intense firefight I sometimes put the controller down on my lap and then grab the mouse in front of me just so I can fire off some quick head shots that would take way too long to line up with the analog. I LOVE sniper rifles when I'm using the mouse, even in mid range combat. Drops people quick and makes you feel like a badass.
I feel like there is no perfect control set up for shooters, not for me anyway. They both have their cons, but I still manage to get by. I was making good progress with Maya. Then I started playing a bit with Gaige and damn is she powerful. Games's been a bit of a walk in the park since I started using her. Summon robot, watch hell get raised and fire at any enemies robot misses with either sniper rifle or elemental gun. She's a fun character
I'm also playing solo. I've never in my life bought a game for multi-player. I don't mind that it's there, and wouldn't be opposed to playing a game with some other people, but I never put money down on a product that I don't feel I can enjoy on my own. What would you do with such a game when your buddies aren't available? Would just be a waste of money. I think the game works well enough as a solo venture, even though there are occasional situations where I really feel like the game is weighted more towards multi player.
Like you I can appreciate be able to take my time and play at my own pace. I'm actually getting tired of all the loot in the game though. There are WAY too many objects to open for items and I'm started to get bored with scouring every area after a battle. I just kind of want to jump back into the action. I also hate all that inventory management and having to spend time comparing guns constantly. I'm not really into the whole "loot" thing. It gets tiresome. I have that old arcade sensibility where I just wan to get back to blasting people
I still like the game though. It has a nice setting, a good aesthetic and great dialog, but it's all so familiar. I've yet to see anything original about Borderlands 2's gameplay. I guess that's my only disappointment with the game. Even the mix of combat and rpg mechanics doesn't seem all that original after playing the Mass Effect games or Bioshock.

.
You're first statement here is probably based on the fact that you haven't used a KB and Mouse often.. Once you remember your binds it becomes easy as pie to perform the functions you mentioned just as if you have a controller.. I can understand it from your perspective though because it does take some adjustment.. But like I said, in due time you will never need to rely on a controller, that is unless you want to fly or use a vehicle within the game..
