LCD TV and the Virtua Gun - Sega Saturn

Post by drewsie »

Anyone had problems using the Virtua Gun on a LCD television?

Just got myself a copy of Virtua Cop 1 + 2 plus the V Gun and when I shoot at the screen the bullet chamber just spins and thats it.

I've tried it on a standard tv and it works fine.

Now, I'm aware this technology was introduced way before LCD screens, but has anyone managed to get the two to work together?

Thanks in advance

Light guns don't work with LCD TV's at all, sadly. They used a technology that LCDs have made useless by having a more davanced way of refreshing the pixels on the screen, or something like that. It really annoys me and the only way to really play light gun games on one of these TVs is with a Wii remote and it's ports of games like House of the Dead 2 +3, or the crappy Guncon 4 for the PS3.

There are USB guns for the PC which use sensor bars, so you can get by emulating the game on MAME or something like that. As long as you can connect your PC to your LCD you should be set. Unfortunately the gun I was looking at still doesn't have Vista drivers, which makes me wary of the support the devs will give the gun going long-term. And I wouldn't want to need to buy another "sensor bar" gun after already having 2 CRT ones for the Saturn.

The LCD Top Gun is one that I know of that uses sensor bars like a wii remote. It got favourable reviews on Lik-Sang before Sony ass-raped them. A few of the negatives was that it had a few incompatibilities with certain emulators. I'm not even sure you can get it anymore. I haven't really been interested in playing lightgun games on anything other than my widescreen crt tv.

Maybe you could ebay the LCD top gun?
