Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
The NES has a bridge rectifier built into it. You can use use a Genesis adapter with it just fine. If you use a NES adapter with a Genesis though, you'll blow out the Genesis.KDub wrote:NES and Genesis power supplies are not interchangeable. One is AC and the other is DCpierrot wrote:Well that's encouraging. I was afraid it was a more serious power issue.Breetai wrote:An NES works just fine with a model 1 Genny PSU. The blinking power light just probably means that the cart(s) were not connecting well. Clean the cards and fix that 72-pin connector inside (about 15-30 minutes work. All you need is a Philips screwdriver and a safety pin).
The NES can handle a wide variety of power sources as long as you don't go over at most 10 volts.

Okay, so I think what I've learned so far is that NES AC adapters are bad.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
It's not that the adapter is bad, it's that adapters are meant to be used with devices that use their specific polarity, AC or DC.
The NES has a bridge rectifier in it that converts the polarity, the Genesis and most other things don't.

I think I might need to start using joke tags.
Didn't mean to make you repeat yourself, Green. Thanks for the clarification before, though.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
The NES adapter puts out AC. Feeding AC to a device that only expects DC means you're going to have a bad time. It won't be as spectacular as someone plugging a US 120 volt item into 220 volt power in another country, but still.
I'm not sure if there were more bricks that spit out AC back in the day, but basically every adapter has put out DC for at least the last 30 years.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Yeah, my local rental store used something similar for all their games. But judging by the other games, I think the ones missing manuals must have just been lost, as the others not only have their manuals, but they're also in pretty good shape.Hobie-wan wrote:Those were made and marketed to rental places specifically so they wouldn't have to mess with books getting lost. I've seen a few different types though the years. I'm pretty sure the place I rented NES games from back in the day had something different in a few of the games too.Michi wrote: And this one is sans original game manual, but as you can see someone printed out the instructions and glued it to the inside cover.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
I recently said, "f*ck it", and am now buying every PS1 long box I come across at a good price; so, today I picked up:
Alien3 - (NES; cart) - $8
International Track & Field (PS1, long box, complete) - $2
Triple Play '97 (PS1, long box, complete) - $2
Winback (PS2, complete) - $2
Centipede Infestation (Wii, complete) - $5
The Kore Gang (Wii, complete) - $7
FarCry: Instincts (Xbox, complete) - $2
I also picked up five more Gameboy dust covers for $2.
Anyway, that is a lot of gaming - and long box - goodness for $28.
