SHY PEOPLE
Very surprised at how much I enjoyed this movie as I usually don't care for movies that focus on family tension, but SHY PEOPLE makes it work extremely well. Long story short it's the same story about a family where some members branch off to become successful and are despised by the ones who stick to their family roots. But it's a lot more than just that. Manhattan, the bayou, ghosts, barfights, family arguments...the film is all over the place yet it remains cohesive. Great performances as well.

Seriously. I think if the mods suddenly deleted all of the posts related to comic book movies and the Nightmare on Elm Street series, this thread would only be about 20 pages long...elmagicochrisg wrote:flojocabron wrote:Also Featuring another 20 pages of The Dark Knight Rises.![]()

EDIT: On topic...my wife and I love "samurai" movies, and our recent Hulu+ subscription - along with the service's nearly unlimited selection of Criterion films - has us watching more than ever. (In our opinion, "samurai" movies combine all of the history and political intrigue of a costume drama - one of my wife's favorite genre - with a heavy does of the swordplay and "badassery" you would expect in a martial arts - one of my favorite genres.)
We recently watched "Kill!", which was a very enjoyable film, and we have seen many of the classic "samurai" films such as The Seven Samurai - along with the rest of Akira Kurosawa's filmography - Lone Wolf & Cub, Hara-Kiri, The Sword of Doom, Samurai Rebellion, The Twilight Samurai, etc.
We still have a lot of films on our queue, but - since there are so many fans of Japanese culture on this site - do any of you have any recommendations for further viewing?

What do you expect from a movie thread on a forum full of gaming nerds? It's not like there are any good video game movies to talk about.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Seriously. We could always argue about Star Wars.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

This is a difficult one...
Tyler Perry - I didn't know him before this - gives this movie a certain flavor you normally only see in black movies. Now while I can appreciate a good black movie, in this one it felt a bit out of place. Maybe because black movies are not easily associated with thrillers like this movie, or maybe because Perry was not the right man for this role. I dunno...
Perry has this kind of black cheesiness over him you don't see in Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson, Forest Whitaker, etc...
Matthew fox on the other hand - unlike Perry - really really shines as the bad guy. With the way he transformed his body for this movie, and how he acts all deranged make him one scary motherfucker. Not someone you would like to fuck with... lol
All in all not a bad movie, if you can get over that black cheesiness thingy...

Originally Idris Elba was going to play the role of Alex Cross.
Pretty sure he would've been the better choice...

how about ol samuel l jackson? i don't know much about the move except action/thriller and he's always good at those. never been a fan of tyler perry much less tyler perry as an action hero. but, i was going to check it out before criticising him.
