Got a 3DO but how to know if it works?

Post by Pullmyfinger »

I went to visit my parents on the weekend and went to the local flea market where I found a panasonic 3do with RF adapter and no controllers. I took it home, plugged it in with some AV cables and it turned in. I opened the tray, put an audio cd in and it reset, after that, it went to some cd player menu that had a stop button but there was no audio, nor was the time counter on the track making any progress.

I want to make sure it works before attempting to buy controllers or reselling it. Does anyone know if all this is normal or if a game will boot up without a controller?

Burn a game on CD-R. It should boot right into it, assuming the burn was good.

The system should boot up with a game in, no need for a controller to test (of course you wont be able to start tho) :)

With no game in you should get an 3D Asteroids type screen after a few seconds of turning on. I have a FZ-1 model and I havent figured out a reset button option yet, so usually its a hard power off when swappng games.

Awesome, I'll have my brother test it out so I don't have to wait until I go again, hopefully it'll work.

If the cd-r doesn't work, lmk. I might have a Need for Speed to send, free of charge.

the cd drives make a fair amount of noise. You should be able to hear the laser moving when it works as well.
