Yeah but most of those weren't localized

He also said "(US) games in general."

I think my Gamestop must be one of those Midwest locations that's getting shipped PS2 games from other stores, like someone was saying earlier in the thread. I was in there a day or two ago and they had Silent Hill 2 and 3, SMT 3, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2, and one or two other harder-to-find games, all CIB. They didn't use to have those sorts of games.

OK, this one rubbed me the wrong way: my wife and I did some xmas shopping today. My siblings and our significant others are putting our money together to get my step-dad a Wii. For whatever reason he says he wants one, and it'll be a nice surprise. So we put our $ together and I said I'd pick it up since I have the rewards card so I'll get the points for it. The system goes for $130 new still -- with Wii Sports & Resort included.

So I go into GS today -- not my local one, but one that I frequent enough times I year that both guys working recognized me. I told them I was picking a Wii as an xmas gift so I wanted a new (not used) one. Immediately they launched into the "but the used one is $80 and comes with warranty etc. Plus it's a group purchase, and the group wants to buy new. I'm only picking up." spiel. I understand the company makes more on used sales, but I just said "well, it's a gift so it's important to me that it's in a nice minty box with the pack-in games and it has zero gaming miles on it." That should have been the end of it but then they went on to trying to get me to buy a Wii-U instead. That shit is lame. I'm ok with you trying to sell me, that's your job. But once I make it clear that we've made our purchase decision, then you need to back down.

I hate it when the mandatory sales pitch is done when there is a line.

I know you want new as a gift but maybe the used vertical Wii should be considered? Those employees probably did not include this important aspect in that tired sales pitch. Not only for Gamecube games which are inexpensive to sweeten the gift, but for Wii games that use a Gamecube controller and capability of add on adapters to use Arcade sticks

I don't want to talk for him, but I don't think adults who game regularily really care for GCN support, controller or otherwise.

Granted, I know nothing of his stepdad but a nice, new package really speaks to people.

I just updated my Reply before catching your post.

I guess it really depends on how much noise's Step Dad is into gaming. The new package vs the capability lost, which would be more value to the individual?

If someone is "into gaming" and wanted a Wii, I suspect they would have acqurired one sometime in the past six years.

The annoying thing about the revised Wii is that the only change made to the case was gluing the GameCube flap shut! They didn't even bother to produce a revised case. Since I keep my Wii horizontal and have no need for the GameCube ports, I wouldn't mind having a new system. I would feel so dirty for rewarding Nintendo on their cheapness, though.
