Gaming chairs - success stories and / or other help

Post by mjmjr25 »

My gameroom is in need of some pretty specific gaming chairs. It has plenty of depth, however it is only 9' wide and essentially it is 8' wide as we need a small buffer from the baseboard heaters.

Requirements of what I need:
-Lightweight (or generally easy to move around)
-Firm / steady (some gaming chairs rock too far back)
-Under $200 ea as i'll need (4) of them
-Attractive (nothing neon etc, black or brown is best)

I've experimented with this X-Rocker but it leans too far back on it's own and the arms take up too much room to the side for what I need.

I've experimented with decent bean bag chairs as well, they look nice, but like most bean bag chairs had crushed beans within a few weeks and don't have the back support for movies and long gaming sessions.

So, does anyone have any suggestions or success stories with similar parameters?

Comfy desk chairs are what I recommend. Can buy them all day long for under $200, are easy to move, compact, and supportive. The only negative is if you really want to be a vegetable and lounge all over the place. For gaming, I love mine.

Honestly, I game on stools. They're sturdy, cheap, reliable, light-weight, mobile, and they encourage good posture during long gaming sessions.

For your deep but narrow room, I would consider putting a couch on risers in the back of the room. Elevate the couch six inches to a foot off the floor so that the people sitting in the back row can see over the heads of the folks in the front.

I never liked gaming chairs, your legs stay straight out from the sitting position. Prefer a couch with large table so optionally can put my feet on the floor or table and not stuck in one position.

I agree. Gaming chairs scream "junior high kid's room" anyway. Grab some computer chairs with some small single person ottomans. I'm not above using the floor either.

Ive always just used couches. Like samsonlonghair said, stadium seating is awesome, especially with wireless controllers. Doubles for awesome movie watching.

Ive looked into other chairs, there was a front page article on it a whiles back, but nothing tops a good couch. My game room will have atleast one couch, probably two, and two Poang chairs from Ikea. Since they are the best chair for long gaming, they are just so comfortable.

The only "problem" with a couch is that this area is sometimes used for board gaming in which we set up fold out tables and chairs.

Also, being such a confined area, we would want to set aside whatever furniture is in the room, when we aren't using it, so it remains an open feeling.

I think I found a good solution, I just bought an 8' cozy sac, light brown in color.

By most reviews, they hold up very well and are resilient foam padding, more similar to couch cushion than bean bag pellets.

It should be fairly maneuverable to put alongside the long wall when we aren't using the room for movies or gaming, but easy enough to slide right back into place when we do need it. The other issue with a couch is that most sit 36"-48" high and as this is a lower level of a split level, the ceilings are only 7.5'. It is pretty stunning the difference a 30" high piece of furniture has compared to a 40" high piece of furniture as far as making a room feel small / cramped.

The cozy sac will be a present for my kids, so I can't post pics yet, but will do so shortly after Christmas.

I'll keep a 2-person recliner behind the cozy sac, so we should easily be able to seat our family of 6. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Ill be curious to know your review on that product. Your kids will love it, but if it works for you we might get one of those once one of our couches die. We will just have to keep the cats off of it - cat hair would never come out of that.

For those unfamiliar (as I was a week ago) with this product, here is a pic of what they look like, available in all sorts of sizes, this is the 8' which is what I got, and based on the many pics I saw, I think we can easily get 4 of us on this as my kids are pretty small yet:
