Well, dang. Doesn't seem like you came away too damaged after that at least.
First and foremost, you're going to need everything by Toaplan:
Tatsujin
Zero Wing
Grind Stormer / V-V
Hell Fire
Twin Hawk
Twin Cobra
Slap Fight MD
Thunder Force II / III / IV
Phelios
Whip Rush
Vapor Trail
Arrow Flash
Gaiares
Air Buster
Battle Mania
Bio-Hazard Battle
Curse
Elemental Master
Glay Lancer
MUSHA
Steal Empire
Twinkle Tale
Wings of Wor
There are more, but those alone would probably take more than enough time and money to collect.

Yep, some tasty titles there! I've marked the ones I had before in ages past. Actually I had the import versions of some of those. This machine will play any region so that should make it easier to acquire certain titles (not allowing for the increase in game speed with the 60hz versions of course)
Hard to believe I actually once owned Gleylancer and sold it on...

I never played any of the "Twin" games. Should be fun!
Thanks

Looks like you had a pretty tasty collection before. Too bad you got rid of them.
I absolutely love Twin Hawk. It's probably quite a bit better in MAME, but I still think the Mega Drive port is respectable.

Re: JP Xbox 360
Yeah - I was just online checking prices for some of those games...
Can't believe it - Musha (which I also had!), Gley lancer, BioHazard Battle - even Zero Wing is getting pricey!
Should always listen to that little inner voice... "Never Sell AnyThing!"

True, but if we're talking PC Engine CD, we need to talk Sega CD also, right? There's not that much to talk about, but there's Silpheed, Robo Aleste, Android Assault and Keioh. PCE CD has a better version of Lords of Thunder, Gates of Thunder, Saphire and Spriggan (unless I'm forgetting anything else major (shouldn't Breetai be in here by now?)). At that point I think it's fairly even, personally. I tend to prefer the shmups on the genesis anyway, though, if only for keeping an aspect ratio close to the arcade's, in yoko, for verts.
Eh, I'm slow.
Best shoot 'em up consoles, IMO:
Saturn>PC Engine>PS2>PS1>X-Box 360>Mega Drive/Genesis>other stuff
Then again, I'm biased towards the Saturn and PC Engine. To be honest, the PS2 has probably the best shoot 'em up library, with the 360 following closely behind. Overall, since you can play PS1 games on the PS2 and a lot of the Saturn shooters are also on the PS1 (even if they are better on the Saturn, the differences are usually not very great), the PS2 is probably the best shoot 'em up console overall. If you are really into the bullet hell style, the 360 is VERY good.
Best 16-bit shoot 'em up consoles (counting CDs, upgrades, etc.):
PC Engine>>>Mega Drive>>>>>>>SFC/SNES

Re: JP Xbox 360
I probably have some genesis shooters left over from when I was collecting them, I'll get you a list together of what I have when I dig through my box this weekend if you like. Pretty sure I at least have Bio-Hazzard Battle.
Also, probably the priciest shooter on the system, but Eliminate Down is a really great shooter. Pierrot already named pretty much all the other really good ones I can think of.
Be careful when buying Grindstormer. Its a Tengen-made cart, and seems to have a pretty high failure rate. I had one that worked just fine, so they do exist, but its worth asking the seller first. Or you could go for the Japanese release, but even less pricey games like Bio-Hazzard are much more expensive in their original region. MUSHA is the only one that you might actually be able to get cheaper if you went for an import.

Thanks for that and for the tips!

I've never heard of Eliminate Down...
I guess if I build up a MD collection again I'd better be sure not to part with any of it for a loooooong time!

It's Japan (and Korea) only, and EXPENSIVE. By expensive, I mean expect to pay $500 give or take a hundred or two (it fluctuates widely, but is always a few hundred).

I was thinking the same thing for Hellfire.
Then again, that probably goes for a lot of MD shooters...

Re: JP Xbox 360
I think the Genesis port of Hellfire is actually as good, if not better. It is quite different though. Its the only one I'd say pushes being better out of the Toaplan stuff.
I like that most of the arcade ports for 16 bit consoles ended up more like console arrange modes, so they are fun to play even when you have them in MAME.
