This is why i absolutely love shmups. No other genre regularly induces this kind of feeling, no other genre offers you so many amazing highs and soul-crushing lows. God bless Cave, their games in particular have this magic formula down to a science.mjmjr25 wrote: may have had my best run on any game ever, I was unconscious.

Dammmn Mike, very impressive!
And I definitely 2nd the above comment. Its so rare to play something that I really don't expect to succeed in, yet still continue to hammer away at. You really feel like your work pays off when a good run finally comes together.

Yessir! I'll message you and we can discuss. I miss eating pizza and playing shmups with people.o.pwuaioc wrote: You should come over before the end of the December. We can start our own subsection for 2 player high score on the Saturn.

Gaw! I can't do anything today. Best run is stage 5 and just under 17mil.
I've got the first chain to midboss down pretty solid and i'm able to get a 175-200 chain on stage 4 each run just on basic survival, but stage 4 boss still soaks me.
EDIT:
Gave it another go...and, I lied. Now, i'm sick:
And Joe lied too. Got to the boss w/3 bombs AND a spare life. Hit that dude w/7 total bombs and when I died he still had 40% of his health. That thing is going to take a ton of work:/

Only real tips I can suggest:
-When you start on him, you'll see the (4) side turrets highlighted, the sooner you take those out, the sooner they stop firing additional bullets.
-He has a real side to side technique and the bullet patterns tend to force you to the opposite corner. When this happens, be sure to switch from lazer to shot. Lazer won't be making contact with his head, which is the only vulnerable area on him after the turrets are gone.

yeah, i figured that out when weaving through the bullet storms blindly firing laser that i wasn't causing any more damage once those side guns were blown up, lol. thanks for the tips.
Re: Together Retro: DoDonPachi
I haven't spent much time against the third stage boss, but I know that when you start out, you can pretty much just settle near the top of the screen, over top of it, and the only thing you need to do is move back slightly when the tracking lasers fire at you. Once it starts shooting the circles of blue bullets, you have to back off of it, but you can do some good damage to it in the first 20 seconds or so, without much work.

Re: Together Retro: DoDonPachi
I should have asked this earlier: for those on the Saturn, are you playing Saturn mode or arcade mode?
