The one I watched was Smraedis's:

Stage 3 and 4 especially. I had been using Red/Shot and struggling from Stage 3 and on, but switching to the Blue w/the wide and powerful spread shot - now those formations on stage 3 just disappear so much more quickly (once you kill the head ship, the side pods all disappear ---- referring to those green things that appear from nowhere and launched 30 bullets each...kill the one ship and they all go away) and then on stage 4, I found myself zigzagging the entire screen and in a mad panic, now after that vid, using blue ship, it is much more controlled chaos.

I'll have to watch the vid. These things are brutal if you don't kill them as soon as they appear.

let me see if i can do another simple 20M. this board is way less terrifying than the standard shmups one... i can't even begin to do the stage 2 chain.

blah blah doj is superior in every way blah blah it's sadly underrated blah blah i'm sure anyone here who reads shmups knows all about that mess
Ha ha, hey Despatche, cool to see you here!

Its definitely a bit more confortable here. We can discuss the game without people popping in letting us all know how far behind we are

Yeah man, those things were my first trouble spot. I try to get in their face as much as possible, especially in the two instances where they spawn a lot of them slowly. I usually let the large ships live a while, and use them when those thin pink bullets start to overwhelm me.

With C-Shot, I find the section much more managable, and the ship with the extend becomes much easier too.

In some games, scoring is so fun that it IS the reason you play the game, but if it doesn't feel like that, no need to force it. We aren't winning anything  may as well make it a fun experience, and who knows, once you clear the loop, you may find yourself looking for excuses to play more Dodonpachi!
Oh I totally agree. I just had to vent after an hour of frustration. But it would be nice to get a little more out of the early stage(s) at least... I mean, half the time I can't see how the chain gets broken, but that's just my noobness to the game.

So yeah. I'm still going to play in hopes of clearing the loop, and maybe even the chaining will click before all's said and done.

Dare I say I actually have enjoyed the bullet hell games we did this year? Dragon Blaze, Dimahoo, Mars Matrix, and now this one. Not bad for being "classically-inclined".

It's even nicer that we were able to do this with the regular TR crowd.

Coming back to this after not playing any stgs for 3 months has been brutal. I'd like to clear at least 1 loop by the end of the month.

I'd, personally, stick with that one, probably.

Speaking of things that seem really similar to DoDonPachi: Is there anything different in the Saturn mode aside from a new first stage?
