Dude, nice! its 300, right? What stage did you get it on?

Oh, and grats on the nice jumps in score Mike and Exed. And quite a nice score by christoph too! This is looking to be the best month thus far, I'd love to see a bunch of people clear this loop.

I got it on Stage 5. It's 330 for C-type.

You guys are looking good for the clear. Just save up bombs for the last two stages.

I'm having a hell of a time keeping the chain just to the stage 1 mid-boss. Done it a few times, but it's so easy to mess up. To be honest, I'm finding the chaining in general for this game more irritating than fun. So as rewarding as it is, I'm just no longer going to worry about it for now... My nerves can't take it.

But hey, actually kept the Max Bomb thing through stage 2 boss for the first time!
1 lifed to where you start activating the 1up, and foolishly lost 2 lives to get that 1up...

Bombs galore for stage 4 as usual (getting somewhat better though), and my stage 5 is still just a mess...
Slow but steady improvement...

I always thought of scoring, at least the kind as intense as DDP, to be something you do as an excuse to continue to play the game even after you can clear it. In some games, scoring is so fun that it IS the reason you play the game, but if it doesn't feel like that, no need to force it. We aren't winning anything  may as well make it a fun experience, and who knows, once you clear the loop, you may find yourself looking for excuses to play more Dodonpachi!

...

blah blah doj is superior in every way blah blah it's sadly underrated blah blah i'm sure anyone here who reads shmups knows all about that mess

Was that the PROMETHEUS superplay?

So, I think I'm going to give up on scoring, and just see how far into the game I can get for now. I'm not having any fun trying to perfect stage 1 anymore. I agree with ChrisHaHa, it's maddening, and I much prefer the chaining in DOJ (and in DonPachi, even).
I've actually perfected the first stage and broken 3 million on it, but then my game goes to shit on the second stage mid-boss or stage 3. Had 6 million after stage 2 on one run, even, then tanked and lost two lives by the time I got to the purple spread mini-boss. That one was particularly devastating.

Guys, I'm absolutely sucking at this. I can only get up to 1.3M on the first boss. Tips and suggestions? (mjmjr's suggestion about lazering the mid boss helped, I think).

I'm not sure if this is the one he's talking about, but here's the Western World Record superplay:

Chaining will get you the most points. The hidden bees will give you cascading point values the more that you collect, but getting them up to a point where the point values are significant while holding chains is fairly difficult. Also, the point values reset if you die. A no miss bonus at the end of the stage will give you 100,000 points for each life stock you have (2 at the end of stage 1).

Other than that, hold the laser on the boss for chain bonus, and you can destroy its pods for some extra points. If you destroy the pods while the turrets are out (as it's about to spin them around itself) they'll drop 100,000 points in large stars. Holding laser fire on the pods will keep your boss chain going as well.
