Because it's only marginally powerful than the other two consoles without entertainment features such as DvD or Blu Ray.. I guess the difference could be attributed to the controller though.. And why are you so quick to argue for it? It's not like I'm totally ripping on the console, even though you could make a case justifying the Vita's price just as much if not moreso..KDub wrote:Why do people keep saying the WiiU is expensive? I'd say the price is justified with the new experience via tablet controller. Yea, it may not be much more powerful than the PS3 or 360, but that's okay.
Though I really wish they used a capacitive touch screen for the tablet. And perhaps a higher res/higher quality display. Oh well! Either way, I am loving the Wii U

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
The resolution on the gamepad is decent enough, gives you 115 ppi or so, so that's not bad at all. I've experienced some pretty rich color presentation on my pad ... though I have the brightness down, so maybe stuff just isn't getting washed out.
In general, I haven't understood the "it costs too much" arguments either. If you account for inflation, the base Wii U is about $13 more than the Wii was when it launched ... that's ... not really unreasonable. At least it's not Super Nintendo levels of cost. Or even Launch NES. Those were damn expensive when they came out.

I don't see why people are so willing to defend the price of the Wii U and rip the price of the Vita, when the Vita is a pretty good tablet in it's own right.. All I'm saying.. But I think if both want to sell well, they either need price cuts or a good library..

Because one is a console and the other is a handheld. There's an understood difference in price between the two realms.EvilRyu2099 wrote:I don't see why people are so willing to defend the price of the Wii U and rip the price of the Vita, when the Vita is a pretty good tablet in it's own right.. A handheld that's very powerful and can work almost as a tablet.. I agree it needs a price cut but I consider the power of the handheld in comparison to others atm as opposed to the Wii U..MrPopo wrote:Because one is a console and the other is a handheld. it is only marginally more powerful than a PS3 or 360 on some counts while clearly less powerful on others. You are essentially paying for the pad and for the Nintendo "we don't sell hardware at a loss" markup.EvilRyu2099 wrote: Because it's only marginally [more] powerful than the other two consoles
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
Xbox 360 was $400 at launch. PS3 was notoriously $600 at launch. Wii U at $300 (or $350 with a game and more storage) is hardly unreasonable, particularly accounting for six to seven years of inflation and a tablet controller. 3DS was certainly overpriced at launch, but it saw a $80 price cut in four months with free games given as a consolation for early adopters. Vita hasn't seen a price drop in ten months (and still doesn't have much of a library considering it's approaching its anniversary).
I'm not trying to diss Vita, as I hope it lives up to its potential, but saying the launch prices of Wii U and Vita are analogous just isn't true.

Very true. I'm not a big fan of Nintendo's ways with hardware these days. But on the other hand, I am having a ton of fun with the Wii U. It has revitalized my interest in gaming and in Nintendo consoles. Party games are growing on me too. I've never been a big fan.dsheinem wrote:it is only marginally more powerful than a PS3 or 360 on some counts while clearly less powerful on others. The tablet controller is lovely too. Quite useful. Can't wait to see what the competitors bring out.

I guess compared to some other consoles it's "cheap" - I find it "expensive" in the sense that I don't have $350 lying around. I won't buy one until it's $250 or less.KDub wrote:Why do people keep saying the WiiU is expensive? Seriously help me out here
