great point also. I'm trying to go about this, without sounding like a Sony fanboy (which I admittedly am). I think Blu-Ray is the way to go, and has been. I'm very surprised the Microsoft didn't build in a proprietary HD-DVD drive at the very least for game storage.
I still don't know what the next xbox will do. There are rumors of going disc less, but I still think they won't go "media-less." Maybe sell games on 32 or 64gb SD cards? The consumer, in my honest opinion, is still not fully ready for an entirely cloud based collection. Microsoft would be smart to do a blu-ray drive. Make it able to playback video (Nintendo's mistake) and watch it steal market share even more from Sony. (while Sony makes money on the back-end of the blu-ray drive)
I hate the idea that M$ won't go this route, merely because it's Sony's tech. I hope I'm wrong. I really do.
Will GTA V fit on one disc on the xbox 360?

The leaked Durango specs have supposedly included Blu-ray. I think MS wouldn't shy away from it if it would help position the next XBox as an entertainment hub.pvt_awol wrote:^

That said, if you look at the PC market, the trend there is towards having a large install and not really needing the disc in the drive. MS could also potentially set things up so that the game gets installed either way, but you just save on needing to download it with the disc (kinda like how Steamworks and Origin titles are). With that strategy, they could potentially offer a "base model" without an optical drive at all - something I wouldn't entirely be surprised to see Sony do as well.

Just to address some misinformation in this thread.
The Wii-U 'shouldn't need HDD installs, therefore the storage limitation point is a little moot. It's merely there for eshop downloads etc. The fact they haven't limited this functionality in any way is pretty cool.
Xbox 360 now can support upto 32GB USB flash/hdd drive partitions, which in some cases is better performance than the actual 360 HDD (when using a high performance flash drive).
The 360 can support separate install media to supplement a single game disc. IE Forza 3 and Forza 4. Where texture information is installed from a disc optionally to improve the experience.
So one possible solution is to have very low resolution textures to be streamed from the game disc with an optional 'HD install' to increase the IQ. For a sandbox game like GTA I'd be very surprised if they tried to segment the game in such a way as to require disc swaps. Total immersion kill.
What a lot of people forget is that geometry takes up a miniscule amount of space compared to things such as textures or high quality audio.

This. 3D models are just a comma delimited list of coordinants for each point in the triangles that make up the model. You can get really good compression on that.Niode wrote:What a lot of people forget is that geometry takes up a miniscule amount of space compared to things such as textures or high quality audio.

The only reason i can think it get it on the Xbox 360 is for the controller, just get a adapter for the PS3 to use a Xbox 360 controller or a modded Xbox 360 controller with PS3 guts, they exist.xan_racketBOY_fan wrote:brunoafh wrote:Get it on PS3 then?

No i think ill wait until it comes out, if there is rampant disc swapping ill just get it on the ps3 and forgo the multiplayer. Im just hoping for the xbox version to let you do a full install so there is no disc swapping. I guess we will have to just wait and see.Hazerd wrote:Well if your friends have to deal with switching discs, then so can you!ninjainspandex wrote: Problem is my friends all have xbox's and i really enjoyed gta 4 online with them.
