Then there's Konami, the MGS collection is good, but the Silent Hill one looks like one of the worst. I realize there's probably a lot too it, working with different engines/code or whatever, but it's just funny how inconsistent and sloppy this stuff turns out sometimes.
How were the RE4, Code Veronica, and Silent Hill HD remakes disappointing?

And I'm not trying to challenge you, I'm genuinely curious. I know nothing about the Silent Hill Collection as I've got no interest in anything Silent Hill related (Well, okay, a little interest. But the games are too damn scary looking for me to have the courage to buy one  ). But from what I played of RE4 HD it seemed like a good straight port with HD graphics and trophy support. Then, due to my new love of the RE games, I wen't and bought Code Veronica, but have yet to play it.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Silent Hill HD collection was riddled with bugs and they messed up stuff like fog draw distance and pretty much the whole lighting engine of SH3.

And you get an achievement for it.

I just wish I could play the game with the new graphics and the old interface.

The Metal Gear, Devil May Cry, and Ico/SotC collections are superb and were released at a very fair price. Although it's true PS2 games look just fine as is usually (especially with component video), the visual upgrades some of these collections squeeze out of these games is amazing. Several of these other collections look cool too. I'm a bit of a stickler on condensing my things and saving shelf space, so I also love the multi-game releases for that reason too. I'm all for it.

The Silent Hill one seems to be one of the only ones that you really hear about being screwed up, along with this new ZoE one. I don't know if the issues were fixed with the Silent Hill one, but the screenshots I saw were flat out unacceptable, that was not a finished product and should not have been put on shelves. The cover art alone is cringe inducing.

What we really need are some RPG compilations already. Suikoden, Tales of, Wild Arms, Shadow Hearts, Xenosaga, various SMT games, competently handled HD remakes of these with dual audio support would be a dream come true, as well as a huge money saver for people that don't have some of these expensive PS2 games.

I believe both have been patched, at least on PS3.

The Splinter Cell collection was also screwed up, and the problems were so basic that most of them will never be fixed. The online modes from Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory were totally axed.

This, and you can't turn them off.
Oh yeah, I forgot to comment on this. I don't understand this argument. If a notification window briefly appearing on the screen notifying you that you did something breaks your immersion to the point of irritation, your attention span must be something else.

I am indifferent to trophies/achievements. Sometimes I mess with them, other times I ignore them completely. But, I don't see how anyone could argue adding play value to a game is a bad thing. And it's not even like it's a major component that could have potentially taken away from the game in other areas due to time and budget being devoted to it like tacked on multi-player, I'm sure these achievement lists are thought of in a day or less.

However, I do think it's dumb that trophies/achievements are a requirement of publishers.

I was going to buy the Splinter Cell collection but then I read about the issues. However, the originals are cheap to pick up so there's a plus.

...Still, it would've been nice to have all the games on a single disc.

Oh come on now. I can turn off notifications that tell me that so-and-so is now online, but I can't turn off the achievement popups. Why not?

You're best off getting the first two on PC, and Chaos Theory and Double Agent on oXbox.
