I tried to make the OP have a poll to vote on this, but for some reason it's all whacked out and won't let me get rid of the previous poll I had in it. So, we can either dump votes here, or I can make a new thread called Shmup of the Month Club 2013 or whatever and that can have a poll.
Shmup of the Month Club 2012

I wouldn't mind taking a spot.
Although I think dsheinem might strongly campaign against it.

he had that avatar before he left... but I just realized he'd make #12 on our list. :\dsheinem wrote:and with an avatar to match!fvgazi wrote:I am active again!
Though truth be told I"d probably have more fun just staying in this thread than doing STGT. Maybe Im' being bitter but this last year just made me feel like it was a month of complaining about shmups rather than playing them.
Re: Shmup of the Month Club (Mars Matrix)
Even if I am on a list of people to pick games, I'm still philosophically against making a schedule without the input of potential additional players. Maybe these folks you listed were active because a certain set of developers/styles of shmup were played, at the expense of others. What's to say next year's list, if picked by those who were most active for this year, wouldn't mirror the experience of this year? The same players who found this year's list uninteresting would be left out and largely uninterested in the next year as well.noiseredux wrote:ExedExes

I just think that last year's process worked since everyone and anyone got to lobby for a game and we just straight up voted.
bruno, my suggestion would be to make a new thread where we can start posting rank ordered lists of 3-6 developers we'd like to see next year (until a set deadline). You can then create a list of 11 to play from those suggestions. Finally, we can all spend several rounds (a few days each) suggesting 3 rank-ordered games for each of those developers that were selected.
I think that process is more inviting to potential new participants than handing down a list from the current active thread participants directing people what to play next year if they want to join the ranks of "active participant" and thus the right to get to pick games for the subsequent year...

you know I'm right though, as we've had a similar debate about TR...
Re: Shmup of the Month Club (Mars Matrix)
In all honesty, I just don't see why we can't just create a new thread for 2013 with a working poll and just do last year's good process with devs/games voting all over again - that would allow everyone to weigh in with whatever they want. We banged out a good list and I'm sure once a new thread is established we can do it again.
Just blow past all the crap and put your scores in.
I wasn't too happy about all that either, but when it all ended I went back through previous years and somewhere I read that it's like some sort of tradition, like these silly reality shows on TV where the producers try to make people fight over stuff, and really that everyone does in fact enjoy the games and post the scores, but it's all just manufactured drama. I'm glad our group isn't like that, howevernoiseredux wrote:Though truth be told I"d probably have more fun just staying in this thread than doing STGT.
