I'm pretty sure if I had all the consoles I wanted I could easily go into old PCs. And if not that, there's arcade PCBs, etc.

Yeah, theoretically if I "finished" with consoles I'd start looking at European computers like the Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum and other obscure stuff. I don't ever plan to own any arcade machines, but MVS carts someday would be nice.

The sad part is, I actually did have the DVD and TV plugged into a surge protector, and they still croaked.

If there was no protection indicator light and it was more than 4 or 5 years old, it was probably not protecting anymore.

I don't recall how old it was, so this is a definite possibility. Though, the VCR and stereo were plugged into the same protector and they still work fine, so who knows. We've got a new protector after that. Hopefully it'll be good for a little bit.
