I'm having trouble burning CDRs for Saturn. I've tried a number of things and can only conclude that it is likley to be the brand of CDR that I'm using. WHERE do you buy your CDRs?
I was using Infiniti which is awsome, but I cant get hold of them anymore. I bought some Verbatim and JVC but they dont work (and the dye is a light blue). The problem is that brands often change factory. So I want to know where you are currently buying from.

Re: Exactly where are people buying their CDRs for Saturn
I use random CDRs I found at Wal Mart, and they work fine.
That being said, my success rate is maybe 50% on getting games to work. Also, even if you are downloading, for example, a Japanese region game, use the Saturn region patcher to check the region of the game. A lot of time, the games come pre-patched, and need to be set back to your console (assuming you aren't using an AR, which would negate the need to check region)
Are you getting BIN/CUE files? I've had by far the most success with those.

Ill try the region checker thing, thanks. I just asumed that the websites/torrents are labeling them with the right region.
I have the region hack, which works as I can play my originals from Japan and Europe. But I can also play my backups that I made using Infiniti CDRs.
I've tried Bin/Cue, ISO/Cue and NRG. Nero 10 and CopyCD. Verbatim, Singalex, Imation and JVC. DAO and DAO/96. Different write speeds. A bunch of different Games/Roms/Iso etc.
I'd love to get it working but I fear I will give up soon.
Thanks

I'd suggest buying Taiyo Yuden brand CDRs and using ImgBurn for burning the discs. Make sure it's the lowest speed setting as well (ex. 4x or so). Works 100% of time for me so far.
(edit: you can take the time as well to research (ex. look at the reviews) to make sure you're getting "Grade A" discs versus "Grade B" if you want the highest quality CDRs)
Another thing to try is to only download ISOs that have been verified as a good dump/rip; for example redump.org stuff.

Re: Exactly where are people buying their CDRs for Saturn
The problem could be anywhere!
Could someone post a link to a good verified dump/rom? That would rule out a least one of the possibilities.
Another possibility is the CDR. So a link to an online product would be great.

I use Verbatim DataLifePlus CD-r's, Taiyo Yuden, or Ritek. For harder to find games or ones I like more, I use Mobile Fidelity Gold CD-R's.
Of all these CD's, the Mobile Fidelity ones give me the best results, especially with PS1 games. I back-up all my hard to find games and play them via a CD-R, to help preserve the game.

I must admit the Verbatims I used wern't Datalife Plus. And the JVCs/TaiyoYudens didnt smell of peaches, more like coconuts.
I'll order some Datalife Pluses and see what happens. Taiyo Yudens seem a little bit of a risk to buy what with different vendors and grades etc. There's no outlet for Mobile Fidelity unfortunately.

Pretty much any CDr I've used has worked, but I just copied everything from actual pressed games. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. That's also why I don't have burns of stuff like Hyper Duel or Taromaru.

I would almost guarantee that the problem has to do with the program or rip you're using..
I've used Maxell in the past (which is apparently horrible media for games) and Verbatim in IMGBurn, with a 95% or so success rate, and anytime I had a non-working backup, it was because of the rip.
Before you go buying a bunch of different brands of media that you might not need, I'd recommend using IMGBurn, if you're not already. If that doesn't solve it, I'd look into stuff from release groups like Darkwater.
