Dreamcast HELP

Post by Sailorcancer »

God REALLY must love me today...

KEY:
DC that doesn't reads Discs = DC1
DC that reads Discs = DC2

OK so guess what? VGA box is FINE! It's MY DREAMCAST! I have an extra DC that won't read discs and I decided to give it a try for shits and giggles. IT WORKS!

My problem the damn thing doesn't read discs! SO what am I to do?

Also I noticed some other things:
DC2 is A LOT LIGHTER then DC1. Also DC1 and 2 have different numbers on the back next to the NTSC U. What in gods names are those?

NEXT. Do you guys think it's disc drive related *why it won't read discs*? IS it possible to swap the drives?

I think if it has a number 2 next to the region code then it definitely won't play 'backups'.

You did not make it clear what kind of discs you were trying to play. Please describe in more detail the issue you are having, what is happening when you try and play a game for example.

Also please use the search function as it will bring up many threads regarding people with faulty dreamcasts. This question has been answered many many times.

Ok.

So back in 2004 I got my DC from Lik Sang. They let me keep it and sent me another one. But the problem was the first DC they sent me didn't read discs. Music CDs, GD-ROMs wouldn't work. I hear the DC spin the disc but then it goes into a "Please insert a Disc". I just went on with the new DC till now.

Now I got a VGA Box the DC that I use doesn't seem to like the VGA Box, but the DC that has the disc problem works great with the VGA box.

All I am asking is if people thing the problem with the first DC was disc drive base. If it is would swapping the disc drive in the working DC to the non working DC would fix it.

That's all, I'll check the search but I don't really know what to search for.

Still not sure what your problem is exactly, your post still isn't very clear.

If the disk drive won't read anything then the disk drive is probably broken. Swapping the drives probably won't help if the consoles are from different revisions. You could try the common fixes for dreamcast issues. I.E., tweaking the laser pot. PSU restart/reboot fix. Or simply cleaning the laser. You can search for the above in the forum or on google and you will find a million and one results about it.

If none of the above helps just buy another one and hope it works.

I'm sorry it is a weird story, but here's my problem. Two Dreamcasts. One reads discs but won't work with VGA box, and the other doesn't read discs but works with VGA box. Your'e right about swapping drives, it wouldn't work, AND one has a mod chip in it. I tried that fix back in 2005 but no luck. I'm going to call a place by my house that does old gaming systems. They might have a DC in handy and I might be able to trade the two in and get some sort of discount. I mean one works fine just not with a VGA box.

TBH I don't know WHY it won't work with the VGA box, but at this point I don't know why and this story is just confussing as hell.
