This game is awesome. I just cleared the first loop with the orange ship, but my wife turned off the machine before I could write down the score. :x

Very nice. Can you remind me if the last stage of the first loop is an actual stage or just a boss fight?

I played the PS1 copy for a bit with my HRAP and just prefer the MAME version on my cab. Not sure if I can put my finger on exactly why as the port feels pretty close, but it might have to do with the basic proximity of my eyes to the screen.

You should at least give the MAME version a go...

I see no point. It's not like I have a cab. I'll be playing on the same monitor, with the same stick, eyes same proximity from screen  . The only difference is with the MAME one I'll probably have to waste time setting it up instead of just hitting the POWER button on my Saturn.

Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with my progress today. 7M feels pretty good considering it's the first time I've played the game other than to "check it out."

Don't know how you guys use Type C... I can use A or B (B better) but C is so slow I tend to have trouble not dying on Stage 1.

Type C's power pays off stage 3 and beyond, and I prefer a slow ship for boss fights, but yes, the other two are great for circling back quickly and grabbing stuff.

As I recall, the PS1 port is deemed superior to the SAT port, but I don't recall why exactly.

I addressed this in the write up (not sure when Nick will post it) and noted that even the main page of the site has had conflicting reports of which version is superior.
debate rages about which port is preferred (this very site has run articles suggesting the PS1 version and the Saturn version as preferred).
