Noise,
Have you ever beaten Bram Stoker's Dracula on the sega CD? The controls are without a doubt wonky, but once you get used to them taking out four bats with one kick becomes simple. Every level seems to get better as well, and the horse riding level was really impressive for its time.
I also love the pipe smoking narrator. His forced accent is perfect.
noiseredux vs. Dreamcast ....version 3.0?

no, I never had an interest. I'm trying to think of any games I'd even want for it... Night Trap I have on SCD, Doom and Virtua Fighter are on Saturn, and um...dsheinem wrote:have you ever had a 32x?
I haven't beaten it, no. I think I made it to the third stage? Only played for about an hour with my wife as part of an afternoon of jumping between various Halloween-themed games.Luke wrote:Noise,

Blogged about it in October. I thought it was alright. Sort of a poorman's Castlevania. But great music and some impressive visuals. A game I can enjoy.dsheinem wrote: agreed-I'd bet he'd like this one...

-VF (a more impressive achievement on the 32X than the sad Saturn conversion)
-After Burner Complete
-MK II (if you dig the CD version of the first game, the 32X port of the sequel is damn good)
-NBA Jam T.E. (after reading your NBA2K review, I see you dig B-ball games)
-WWF Wrestlemaina Arcade Game
-Space Harrier
-Virtua Racing Deluxe
-Star Wars Arcade (not the most stellar port of the arcade hit but its exlusive)
These are the games I enjoy on the platform personally.

Meh. I have it on Saturn already. And I COLLECT Saturn games. And I'm not even that big of a fan of the first game to care about a better conversion.-VF (a more impressive achievement on the 32X than the sad Saturn conversion)
Don't know anything about this one, but I've never been *too* into the After Burner series.-After Burner Complete
Again, it's on Saturn which I actively collect for, so I'm not really that concerned with getting it on another console. (I already technically have it on PSN as well).-MK II (if you dig the CD version of the first game, the 32X port of the sequel is damn good)

Another Saturn.
Don't care about wrestling.-WWF Wrestlemaina Arcade Game
I like Space Harrier a lot. It's in Shenmue though, so I don't really *need* it.-Space Harrier
Never been a bit VR fan... and really, there's so many great racing games on DC that I don't really need to start seeking out others.-Virtua Racing Deluxe
This is actually probably the only other one that I was going to mention as something I could be interested in. I am not a Star Wars fan at all, but the game does look good. So yeah. I feel like out of everything mentioned that's probably the only one game I could maybe be interested. Hardly enough to have me rushing to look for a 32X though.-Star Wars Arcade (not the most stellar port of the arcade hit but its exlusive)
Re: noiseredux vs. Sega
Also to note a few things:
- There's VF remix on the Saturn, which may not really be a port of the original arcade game to some, but I think it's better than the 32X port.
- Space Harrier is also on the Saturn with a mission stick to boot; I guess whether or not it's better is debatable
- Virtua Racing is also on the Saturn with racing wheel support, and I hear a lot of people prefer this to the 32X version
I guess the big thing with the 32X arcade conversions is no load times, and better looping of the music in some cases. I tend to want the CD based conversions, but that's me.
I got a 32X mainly for Knuckles Chaotix and Tempo. Also on the look out for Kolibri, Doom and some of the arcade conversions like After Burner, NBA Jam and Mortal Kombat II. For me that would make for a pretty good 32X collection, and worth the buy in for the adapter, but I guess if I were to start throwing money at the wall, I'd probably add Blackthorne and Spiderman, too.
I'd say pick up a 32X if you can get one on the cheap noise. There's some good stuff for it. It may not have the depth of catalog that a lot of other Sega systems have, but it does have some really quality stuff.

Re: noiseredux vs. Sega
I love to collect for all Sega systems but I still can't believe how bad the Saturn version of MK2 is. The 32x version blows it away and is the best retro version to get. Of course MK2 is also one of my favorite games, and I would recommend a 32x just for that port if you love Mortal Kombat.noiseredux wrote:Again, it's on Saturn which I actively collect for, so I'm not really that concerned with getting it on another console.
